4 new MG SUVs planned for India; debut at 2020 Auto Expo

4 New MG SUVs Planned For India; Debut At 2020 Auto Expo

The new MG SUVs are likely to be showcased at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo that’s scheduled to begin on 7th February in Greater Noida.

Quote:
The first SUV to roll out from the MG’s stable will be the MG ZS EV. The electric SUV will make its India debut on 5th December and go on sale early next year.

The British carmaker will also foray into the premium compact SUV segment to challenge Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks. Reports suggest that the company might bring in the re-badged and re-engineered version of the Baojun RS-3 that was recently launched in China. The SUV uses a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine for generating power worth 104bhp. It can be had either with a 6-speed transmission or a CVT gearbox.

The 6-seater version of the MG Hector SUV will also make its way to India. Its design and styling will be slightly different from 5-seater Hector. It might get new headlamps with turn indicators, revised bumper with faux dual-exhaust tips and newly-designed taillamps. The Hector 6-seater will have more features and cabin space to offer.

With the MG Maxus D90, the British carmaker aims to tap the fully-fledged SUV segment that currently ruled by Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. In India, it will be made available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel could be borrowed from the Hector. Recently, the company showcased the new diesel version of the Maxus D90 at the 2019 Guangzhou Auto Show.

Looks like MG is going to have the spotlight on itself at the expo what with most big names missing in action. Also its pretty evident that MG is relying on an SUV intensive portfolio for the near future atleast.

I think Tata and Mahindra who are known for their SUVs are going to be the most badly hit manufacturers from this Chinese assault. Not to forget other Chinese manufacturers who are also going to make their presence felt at the expo.

A nice move by MG.I have a strong belief that that the EZS SUV is gong to sell in huge numbers, next to the level of Creta !

The news emphasizes on the British Origin of the MG where ever possible. Nice marketing though !

There is literally ZERO chance of any electric SUV - whether from MG or anyone else - matching the Creta in sales. Hyundai's own Kona couldn't do it due to the usual reasons that are currently limiting the popularity of EVs = price, customer apprehensions of the new tech, lack of charging infrastructure, limited range etc.

MG Motor India, has already spent Rs 2,000 crore in the country and commenced manufacturing operations at its plant at Halol in Gujarat.

"We are committed to India and have started our journey in July this year. We have a long-term plan for the country and will make further investment of Rs 3,000 crore," MG Motor India chief commercial officer Gaurav Gupta told PTI.

The carmaker has so far sold nearly 13,000 units of its internet SUV, MG Hector, he said.

Gupta said the company will launch an electric internet sport utility vehicle and will have a total of four models by July 2021, all in the SUV segment.

The company also focuses on expanding customer service centres and around 250 showroom-cum-workshops will be put in place by March 2020, he said.

I wish instead of these SUV’s they would bring in a nice roadster. Like the old days.
