Re: BMW India's factory auctions of used cars

A known had bid for 2 Mini's and won both - around 30ish lac. Does it make sense for him to pick either of these?

Blue one - convertible, looks to be a media car.

Sadly, even they had similar process as of BMW. You need to prepare a DD, go for inspection and submit your bid.

Did MBIL publish any advertisement in any newspaper? Else, where can we learn about such auctions?

Re: BMW India's factory auctions of used cars

BMW India has been conducting a lot of Auctions since the past month. As of now, the only way to take part is via CarTrade professional account.

Being a car fanatic, I got my pro account setup last year and in the process have got myself a brand new Oxford Edition Mini. It was an unregistered car with less than 600 Km and I could get at around 20% off the List price.

Here's what BMW had auctioned today, almost all brand new Euro-4 Cars. The dealerships/ private dealers like BBT mostly pick these. From what I understand from the discussions with concerned officials is to get in touch with Dealers or drop an Email to Bmwauctions@bmw.in and they will share details.

BMW will post some more cars in this week, so I thought to update in case anyone is keen. And the best way to get more info is the mentioned Mail ID.

Re: BMW India's factory auctions of used cars

This looks very exciting. Thanks Turbanator.
I have applied for a cartrade pro account but I dont think I'd be able to get it before this auction ends. Looks like there is an auction going on right now thats ending 21st Sep.

Can you please, if you can spare some time, list the vehicles being offered there?
Is there a 330i or Mini Cooper S/JCW?

Here's the list. Best will be to drop an E-Mail or Contact your dealer. When, I was not having the Pro account, local dealership had offered to bid on my behalf and charge a lum sum amount.

If you have a GST number and spare 50 K as a deposit, Cartrade account can be opened fast. I did in less than an hour if I recollect. But, if it's just one car that you need, best will be to route via dealership. They will also get 10 or 20 K at the time of invoicing and a new customer for their workshop

No Mini's this time. In previous 2 auctions there were few so check with BMW and they can probably share which dealers have bought in.

What’s the process to get a car trade pro account? I tried some ago and they said only car dealers are allowed

No, any business can do. I have sent you details of the person who did for me.

Occasionally, BMW also does auction of leased cars or some of the cars which used by their own employees. One such is also underway, but most cars are Toyota & Honda. This car stood out, so posting separately for enthusiasts. These will differ from the above auction, usually on as is where is basis. So, one will need to check the Service/ Car history from the Vin before making an offer.

VIN - 330i. WBA8A9706HNA39538

Re: BMW India's factory auctions of used cars

Do you know if there are any BMW M cars on auction, wonder how much a M2 would sell for in this condition?

So, unlike consumer auctions, there are no minimum prices for the trade auction. If the value remains low because of any reasons like few bidders taking part, BMW does not accept the bid.

M2's reserve price may have been what Sahil has mentioned, but mostly these cars go much higher because of the loadings. As an example, Two of the M5 auctioned last year went about 30% higher than reserve price and even I paid around similar extra on the reserve price on the M4 last year. Whenever there are direct customers for any particular car, prices go high.

Could you please DM me the details of the person who did it for you, Turbanator?

Also, noob question but how did you get the VIN of that 3? And once you do have the VIN, how do you check the service history before bidding for it? Does a BMW service centre help readily help with this?

It's available on their web or you can contact 93242 64376. But I will suggest not to subscribe unless you want to buy multiple vehicles and fully understand the business. If you bid and don't pick the car, you lose your security. 25K penalty for vehicles under 25 Lac and 50K penalty beyond 25 Lac.

There are a lot of pictures uploaded and there will be always one clear picture of the VIN. You can decode and find out the loadings. This is helpful for CBU cars.

If you have right contacts

That's the reason I will suggest checking with your local pre-owned BMW sales guy. When I was not having this Pro account; local dealership offered me services at a fixed charge ( 50K-1 Lac). That should be the best course as these auctions are live only for 2-3 days.

Re: BMW India's factory auctions of used cars

Hi @turbanator, thank you for the great thread and useful insights. Can one see the price these cars actually get sold for? Do you have to pay registration charges on top or just transfer charges?
Could these 3 series be grabbed for in approx 30 lacs or am I being too optimistic?
