I don't think that is the case. VW could launch T-Roc (which sits a segment above the T-Cross and its Skoda counterpart the Kamiq) in a CBU form that is at exorbitant tax rates, just at 20L which is just about 3L above the top most variant of the Creta.
Thus, they can manage to price it at par with the Creta at least. But what I feel is that they want to optimise the platform for India and tweak it for Indian requirements. The customer here wants a proposition very different. He wants space at the rear seat (which is usually poor in European cars), gizmos at cheaper prices and just standard safety kit (the lane assist etc is not required).
Also, since Skoda wants to play a bit of the volume game with the VisionIN they might want to price it lower than the Creta to make heads turn and persuade the customer to look at it. That will not be possible without cost optimisations.

Looks like the world's ready to see the final product. Caught the same car, if it's the vision in, the stance is low, more like gla and less like the Kodiaq or Karoq. Apologies for the low quality pics.

These are pictures of the Skoda Kamiq, not of the Vision IN concept based upcoming CSUV from Skoda.

I'm a bit confused with names but I think this is the creta/seltos price range SUV. I thought Kamiq/vision is same thing.

They are theoretically the same thing. The Kamiq is the international version and will not be launched in India. What we will get is the Vision IN based SUV, which is in turn based on the Kamiq. We have been seeing the Kamiq test mules without camouflage for a year now. But, the production ready Vision IN based SUV (creta/ seltos rival) has not been fully revealed yet and only heavily camouflaged test mules have been spotted so far. There will be some differences between the Kamiq and the one we will get in India, the major one being the SUV like stance which the Indians' love.

While competitive dynamics are quite different in India and in Russia, you can know that Skoda Kosmiq can tentatively launch at INR 9.5 lac base variant.(1 RUB = 1 INR).
