The Kamiq (as well as the VW Taigun) is expected to arrive with both 1.0 and 1.5L TSI engines. The lower variants will get the 1.0 engine with the 6 speed manual transmission as seen in the newly launched Polo and Rapid. The higher variants will get the 1.5TSI engine with choice of manual and TC Auto transmissions.

The group has revealed how low they can price a vehicle with the 1.0 TSI + MT combination with the recent launch of the Rapid Rider at 7.49 lakhs. Granted, the cost of producing an SUV, that too a brand new design will be higher, however, there is enough cushion here to allow Skoda to launch a well-kitted version of the Kamiq and Taigun at 9.99 lakhs with the 1.0 TSI. This will help the group to make a splash in the segment dominated by the Creta and Seltos.

They should launch not just a barebones version (this is already available at 9.99 lakhs with the Creta Diesel E and petrol EX variants) - but launch a variant with all essential features including touch-screen infotainment, cruise control, projector headlamps, roof rails, rear washer/wipe etc. at that price point to steal a march over Creta and Seltos and succeed. The Kamiq with the 1.0 TSI will leave the Creta petrol EX with the 1.5 NA engine in the dust with the power and torque advantage of the advanced turbo petrol and also deliver much higher fuel efficiency.

At the auto expo they said the 1.5 TSI will come with a 7 speed DSG. Where is the news about TC coming from?

Please note the 1.5 TSI will be for the top spec model. The entry and mid level variants will get the 1.0L TSI in both the Skoda and VW's CUV.

AT/MT/not yet known for the 1.5L TSI variant. As of now it shows in the DSG configuration only.

Thanks to Wildon, the build sheet of the test cars can be found here (ARTICLE: Find your car's date of manufacture (VIN))
Both 1.0 and 1.5 TSI seems to have the DQ200 box.

Re: Skoda Kamiq spotted in India

The Vision IN India -developed product will be the analogous model to the Taigun which will be released by VW for the Indian market. As Hollis has clarified, the Kamiq was never meant to be released in the Indian market and our market was slated to get a slightly different product in the form of a Vision IN model from Skoda. Just because the Kamiq was being sighted on Indian roads does not mean that the model was ever meant for the Indian market.

I personally feel that rather than bring in a overpriced product as a CBU/CKD (perfect example - the Skoda Karoq, which I think is needlessly overpriced for what it offers) it will be a much better alternative to get a product specifically developed for India a la the Taigun or the Skoda Vision IN (though both models are essentially based on existing models offered overseas).

KAMIQ was never intended to come to India. The India bound Vision IN is a C/SUV based on KAMIQ , with a more cost effective loosely based on the MQB platform.

Highly localised means competitive price. A great alternative to the Creta/Seltos. However I hope they give the 1.5 tsi and not the crap 1.0. I ain't buying a 1.0 at that price.

Because there is no place to slot it in.

The India spec SUV Vision IN is based on the Kamiq. It is a smaller lower cost version.

The Kamiq will be too expensive sitting even above the Creta so pointless.

Brilliant camouflage job by Skoda! it is so on point, lol. Why do we keep seeing Kamiq test units here when Skoda has no plans on launching it here in India? My only guess would be that since the Vision IN is based on the Kamiq and they probably share a lot of components, so Skoda might be testing the components on Indian road conditions without showing us the Vision IN.

To consider that it's a good camouflage! They are testing Kamiq with Vision IN underpinnings 😅 so why even hide the Skoda Badges? Yes indeed they're testing it for components and basically engine and transmission for the Vision IN, that's the only guess we have.
