Re: Skoda Kamiq spotted in India

I saw the Karoq in China - looked like a jacked up Octavia. The Kamiq definitely looks much smaller and in terms of interiors looks like a premium alternative to the Creta/Seltos/Hector although again, it is smaller and won't have the same level of presence.

So it would probably be Rapid<Kamiq<Octavia<Karoq<Superb<Kodiaq with definite overlaps of 1L+ on both ends of the variants.

And I agree - there would be few takers for the Karoq despite it's amazing appeal- the Tucson/Tiguan/CRV 5 seater options anyways don't command good (and justifiable?) volumes!

It would be best for Skoda to play with the Karoq and release a plug in hybrid/electric at Kodiaq price levels - make it a test bed for future techs!

Re: Skoda Kamiq spotted in India

Useful comparison review of the UK Skoda Kamiq versus the VW T-cross:

https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/skoda/...en-c3-aircross

Looks near certain the Indian Kamiq will have the 113 bhp 1.0 TSI and reserve the 150 bhp 1.5 TSI for the Karoq & Octavia.

Re: Skoda Kamiq spotted in India

Skoda always nail it with the design , and their cars have adequate features, luxury feel and good performance too. But Indians are yet to put complete trust on Skoda brand. The Kamiq looks amazing. The rear looks like the love child of Porsche and Audi , and that's definitely a good thing. Hope this car becomes a success!

Re: Skoda Kamiq spotted in India

ŠKODA KAMIQ and SCALA now available with range-topping 1.5 TSI engine in Europe.

The 1.5 TSI is speculated to be India bound too as their range topping variant. The power-train is to be shared with the sibling from Volkswagen too.

Quote:
› Most powerful of the five engine variants for the city SUV delivers 110 kW (150 PS)
› Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) and petrol particulate filter reduce fuel consumption and emissions
› ŠKODA KAMIQ offers increased ground clearance and optional Sport Chassis Control
› 1.5 TSI also available for the ŠKODA SCALA across all major European markets
The turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection 1.5 TSI provides an output of 110 kW (150 PS) – making it the most powerful engine for the new ŠKODA KAMIQ. In tandem with the upcoming 1.0 G-TEC natural-gas (CNG) engine delivering 66 kW (90 PS), it rounds off the city SUV’s engine range, which will then consist of a total of five modern and efficient units. Benefiting from automatic Stop/Start technology and brake energy recovery, all engines comply with the current Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard.

Quote:
The 1.5 TSI uses a manual six-speed gearbox or an optional seven-speed DSG transmission to deliver power to the front wheels. When under light load, the car’s Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) automatically shuts down two cylinders in order to reduce fuel consumption. A petrol particulate filter minimises the emission of particulate matter. In addition to the KAMIQ’s specially developed suspension, which offers best-in-class ground clearance, customers can order the optional Sport Chassis Control system. This includes a suspension lowered by 10 millimetres and electronically adjustable shock absorbers enabling two different suspension setting

Re: Skoda Kamiq spotted in India

Can anyone who has seen this vehicle, please tell me whether in size it is comparable to the Yeti, or is it larger or smaller?

And if there is ANY info on the Spec sheet for India, it would be great info to have. For example, as in the Yeti, is this likely (if ever) to have the option of 4WD/AWD in India?

Skoda Kamiq is longer than Yeti, but lesser in height. More in attached sketches.

Oh Man! You’re too good!

Thanks a lot.

So I’m thinking as I’m viewing this. The boxy Yeti was actually great for a tall person to get in and out of.
The squarish front roofline and window line of the Mini Cooper also is very helpful for a tall person’s ingress and egress.

By contrast, the Merc A Class with its heavily sloping roofline and all those curves, are a real pain for a tall person.

I am thinking that the Kamiq will be less easy for a tall person in terms of Ingress and Egress as compared to the Squarish Boxy old Yeti.

Re: Skoda Kamiq spotted in India

Yes, being significantly shorter than the Yeti (almost half a foot shorter), it is likely to look like a station wagon rather than SUV. However interior vertical space seems less compromised (1003 versus 1027 mm in the back).

Re: Skoda Kamiq spotted in India

I’m guessing this will be priced above 25L ex showroom going in between Tucson and Tiguan.

The Kamiq will go up against the likes of the Seltos , Harrier , Creta etc.
The Karoq will go up against the Tucson and other rivals.

Interior sketch of the India bound Kamiq teased,

Link (Skoda to unveil Compact SUV concept at 2020 Auto Expo)

Quote:
The Skoda Vision IN SUV is likely to derive styling cues from the international-spec Skoda Kamiq, but will get a few tweaks to suit Indian tastes. Expect Skoda to use more chrome elements both outside and in. Also expected on the production version of the Skoda Vision IN are automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, two USB charging ports at the rear, drive modes, ambient lighting and more.

Engine options will likely include a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. There will be no diesel engine option on offer with Skoda’s midsize SUV, but a CNG variant could be on the cards.
