Yes but that's not a deal breaker for most customers. Many don't even know what it means. Ride is still better in the OmegaArc chassis. So this difference is a bit benign.

re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

Hello bhpians. Some new information regarding the Gravitas/Harrier I would like to share with you.

1. A panoramic sunroof is not coming in the Gravitas due to the stepped roof.

2. 99% an electronic parking brake will be available at launch.

3. Media drives are scheduled for around 20th February 2020.

4. Media cars will most likely sport a blue shade which is different from what we saw at the Geneva.

5. The interiors of the Gravitas will sport a grey shade which will differentiate it from that of the Harrier. Tata calls it internally as the "Lalitpur Grey".

6. Harrier with panoramic sunroof and automatic gearbox will be launched shortly after the launch of the Gravitas.

They don't have to look far for inspiration at least

The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!-discovery.jpg

I for one am a bit annoyed that they cite engineering problems for which solutions exist and it seems to me that they are trying to make an attempt with bling like Hyundai and MG while not quite acing it and compromising their traditional strengths leaving us with something in between which neither feels value enough nor feels premium enough in terms of bling features and also ups the chances of niggles.

I wonder if they will end up with very few of the gizmos crowd and erode their traditional customer base too. I have waited for a Safari replacement for 4 years now. The Hexa seemed sensible but was not satisfying to the heart. Will wait for the Gravitas but looking at what I am seeing of the new XUV I am tempted to jump ship.

Sunroofs are rather expensive components. Putting 2 of them may be acceptable at JLR pricepoints but for the semi premium segment it may actually reduce the operating profits.

What makes a sunroof so desirable in India? Honda city puts one on the VX variant, but skips 6 airbags. You need to go to the ZX variant for that. Do more people prefer a sunroof over 4 extra airbags? I don't know how much both cost, but assuming that their costs are comparable.

Sunroofs, huge touchscreens do matter in India only when your car doesn't have one but a rival car does. It's only for bragging rights IMO.

Its similar to the pub discussions that supercars owners have on the acceleration times of their steeds. Like my car does the 0-100 run in 3 seconds and your does it in 3.1 seconds. Thats it

re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

I.saw.one near Taj Blue Diamond in pune 30mins ago. It looks little or no bigger than XUV500 to me. I peeped in and again the interior seemed ok - grey like Ram said. Didn't get too long to find any other detail. Again like Ram said, the last row seemed cramped, so this is no MUV kind of space. Resemblance to Harrier is prominent and it may or may not be a good thing depending on one's opinion. To me, it is not a good thing given that Harrier isn't really flying off the shelves.

Oh and the alloys looked okayish..nothing like what the Seltos gets.

re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

The rear seems Ertiga-ish to me, too much like that of a minivan. IMO Tata should launch the Harrier with Auto, Pano sunroof, Electronic parking brakes and reduced-size Rear view mirrors first, to redeem itself and reclaim lost ground. One of the most promising SUVs that lost the battle only due to lack of auto and a few other minor features plus lack of perceived quality due to rushing in without sorting out the niggles. Once these items are fixed and Harrier is re-launched as a facelift, it would allow Tata to truly tap the potential of this “land rover at a third of the price” vehicle.

Instead of focusing energies on this, launching another half-baked model is not going to help. The volumes are just not there in the three-row segment outside of the Innova.

re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

Tata Gravitas Petrol Expected In 2020 Alongside Harrier.

A new 1.6-litre petrol engine with direct injection is being developed by the Indian carmaker. Also DCT automatic transmission is under development which is expected to replace torque converter ATs in the later stages.
Quote:
While the carmaker has not confirmed the timeline for the introduction of the new in-house developed petrol engine, it is expected post the implementation of BS6 emission norms. Hence, it is safe to assume that the petrol-powered Harrier would see the light of day sometime in the second half of 2020. The Tata Gravitas should get the same engine as and when Tata plans to introduce it in the Harrier.

Tata is yet to reveal the official specs of the new 1.6-litre engine, but we know that it will get an optional automatic transmission. The auto option would initially be a torque converter unit, probably the 6-speed AT that Tata will soon introduce with Gravitas and Harrier's 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced unit. However, the torque converter’s days are limited as Tata will replace it with an in-house developed DCT shortly.

Because of this they did not give an independent rear suspension, rear disc brakes,4WD etc. That's the reason they also did not invest in reengineering the platform to accommodate the 2.2 VARICOR engine. Regarding flattening the floor hump, I don't know how easy it is and what are its repercussions. Experts can throw light on this.

The Hexa will continue for the time being because senior Tata officials are of the opinion that the Hexa beats the Harrier twins hands down when it comes to ride quality, seat comfort, value for money etc. This opinion was formed after customers started cross shopping the Hexa when they actually had gone to the showroom to checkout the Harrier. The BS6 engine development for the Hexa is in full swing and will be launched next year.
What was the logic in adapting the Land Rover architecture? TML changed the all-aluminium platform to iron, they replaced the independent suspension to a rigid rear axle, removed the 4*4 and put in a front wheel drive. Only putting in a beautiful body, but not providing the capability doesn't make a SUV. To add to the insult, they didn't provide regular goodies like mood lighting, sunroof/panoramic roof etc. Then you make a dangerously flawed OVRM just to please your design head, and also put in an unrefined taxi engine with zero NVH. Of course the Hexa will be much better. It's not that the Hexa is superlative, just that the Harrier is a mediocre copy of the Discovery Sport.

Some of us here have been and will be accused of Tata bashing. But personally, its just that we had high expectations especially after the example creta and xuv and up to some extent the Compass set in this segment. Adding fuel to the fire was Tata going on talking about turnaround etc.

Only say the safety factor of the Harrier may be claimed to be bulletproof (lets not forget we don't have crash test results in our hands like the nexon)

Other than that we have an incomplete feature list, QC issues, no auto, no 5 year OEM warranty, no 4x4 (the real LR pedigree. Credit to FCA with the Jeep Compass on that front, with 4x4 available at launch). And the okayish Tata sales experience. For some reason they thought that the design only will make it sell like hot cakes.

As I said earlier, Hexa came and the Safari got the step-brotherly treatment. Now the same will happen to the Hexa after the arrival of the Gravitas. The fact that the Hexa won't be available post March 2020 till September says a lot.

Can we imagine how Maruti or Hyundai would have milked the hell out of something like the Safari brand? Look how much the Xuv and Scorpio sell even today.

If all you want to make is Cult Cars, and be happy with Youtube comment section fanboys commending build quality and cursing the Innova, selling under 1000 units a month, be my guest.

But if you want to make your investors happy, will such stunts work?

Sorry for the rant. But its just that we want to see Tata succeed, and they keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Just confirmed from my sources that the petrol engine is not coming before 2022. So this seems to be a clickbait article from CarDekho.

The discussion would have been of some substance and much meaningful if they are factual and subjective.

First, its steel not iron. Lets ignore the ignorance and move to next one. Only larger land rover have aluminum, OMEGA ARC uses a steel monocoque just like Land Rover’s D8. D8 is JLR’s steel-based platform and underpins cars like the Evoque, Discovery Sport and the Jaguar E-Pace. Another interesting fact is that the steel used in the construction of both Discovery Sport and Harrier is provided by Tata Steel.

BTW, omegarc is capable of 4x4. The platform is not only ready for an all-wheel-drivetrain, but can also be configured with a battery pack in the floor bed for an electrified powertrain.

Moreover, same taxi engine is found in bling loaded MG Hector and Jeep Compass, however, NVH levels in Harrier are way better than that of Compass and Hector. And these two noisy taxi engine powered cars; Hector and compass don't have AT also. What a pointless logic is that

Finally, its all bling in terms of mood lighting etc.. seriously
