Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

This is probably the top end (My reasoning; During launch, only that version is made available). Don't go by the steel wheels. They're probably yet to receive and fit the alloys from the supplier. Car looks awesome

Steel rims are actually looking good. Rare case when actually I think steel rims are better than alloys.

Might be Safari effect. Steel rims, those wheel caps, roof going upwards.. roof rails matching the upward roof line...

I have already made up my mind.. its no gravitas..

Its a S-A-A-F-A-A-R-I

The grill pattern certainly looks different ( Tri Arrow Inspired) compared to the Harrier's one and is finished in greyish shade or could be chrome finished.

- The old Safari's television advertisements were probably the best or at least in the top 3, automobile adverts in our country. Even today, a lot of people remember those ads and these are not the forum enthusiasts that I am talking about.
- Though the Safari may not have sold very well, it is a recognized name to the Indian junta.
- At least 95% of Indian SUV buyers dont know which SUV is body on frame and which is is not.
- At least 95% of Indian SUV buyers dont need 4x4.
- If Tata Motors utilizes the architecture and underpinnings from their own product, they are being criticized. The point of buying a company with non overlapping specialization, is to get immediate access to that expertise.
- If Tata Motors would have instead spent hundreds of crores in reinventing the wheel and developing a brand new platform from the ground up, they would have been criticized for not dipping into the existing platforms that they owned through acquisition.

There is an old saying, a rose by any other name is still a rose. The market will judge the product on the basis of its capabilities and pricing, not the name.
The Indian market unfortunately judges based on music system, remember hello MG and chrome and mileage

From that picture with the blue vehicle - Looks like the front end is similar to Harrier, so where does Safari start in this vehicle? Is it from the C-Pillar onwards?

Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

All the pessimism is unwarranted.
VW group has the same Front and Rear for dozens of vehicles.
So do Benz and BMW.

Why should Tata get flak for using a marquee name for and one of the best SUVs in the segment as a platform, especially one that has its Chassis/Engine/Drive train combo sorted to be the best in class and of international standards.

Frankly, Safari purists should be happy that such a capable SUV is proudly wearing the Safari moniker rather than some half baked attempt.

Finally, except auto enthusiasts, 90% of the market isn't even aware of the name 'Gravitas'. They shall simply be happy that the New Safari is a fantastic looker, comfortable and spacious with one of the best ride and engine combos.

Let's be optimistic for what was a street smart move by Tata.

I couldn't agree more with this! It would be so humorous to watch a new "Safari" owner getting saddened when people would pass it off as a long Harrier. Branding it, by giving an iconic name, is itself a shame to the legendary product as the DNAs are largely different in terms of design and ruggedness.

Yes, there will be some buzz after its launch, but it would be short-lived and soon die off. No doubt that Gravitas would be a good vehicle but with such design elements it won't go well in the history of TML. Hope the marketing team figures it out and stay put on Gravitas.

Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

Hello all, I got this information from a member of our Tata Safari Group. He got this from a reliable source, but please take it with a grain of salt.
Tata Motors are looking at retaining the Safari STORME, the Gravitas = Safari and an improved Safari Storme will be launched with a BS6 Avatar. The reason why they decided to name the gravitas as the Safari was because of a emotion that their FLAGSHIP should be named as the same. Like the Clock in the Safari's. Keeping my fingers crossed.

No offence, but resurrection of the Safari storme is highly unlikely. The Gravitas is the New Safari. Tata has the Nexon, Nexon EV, Harrier and this new Safari lined up in the 10-25 lakh segment. And the Hexa is going to get one more life with its BS6 engines, and thats probably it for 2021. What is likely is an SUV between the Nexon and the Harrier, which was code named as the BlackBird. Since no mules have been spotted as yet, there are no concrete reports about this model. Tata will also have to focus on the HBX, the Altroz EV, possibly even a Tiago or Tigor EV. So they seem to really have their hands full for 2021.

More than that, they just cannot have two completely different cars existing under the same brand name. It will instantly kill the more expensive version.

Re: The Tata Gravitas (H7X) SUV. EDIT: Branded as the Safari!

If the Gravitas aka Safari fails to take off and meets the fate of the Aria they will successfully manage to kill off the Safari brand. Is that a risk Tata is willing to risk? They should really think it through.

That's a lot of chrome! Black and chrome alternate tri-arrow inserts would have been much better. Similar to Mercedes, Kia & MG Hector grills. This reminds me of the aftermarket chrome grill for Wagon R.

Exactly this is what will happen. Harriers are not flying off. Now giving it a new name with higher price is not going to help. You call it gravitas and then shoehorn the Safari name. Learn from Kia how to be coherent in selling a car. You can't keep be so unsure about what you want

Lol. No Safari owner is going to care about some lame humour joke of someone saying it's a Harrier which itself is a high pedigree vehicle.

In fact they would be happy rather than saddened enjoying the ownership experience of a well built SUV which shall be comfortable and great to drive.

Let's not decide what would be a would be Safari owner's emotion sitting here in this forum!
