Re: September 2019 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Auto Data Gives Puzzling Picture - Vehicle registration data - a proxy for sales - sourced by two industry bodies from the ministry of road transport and highways appears to be sharply divergent.

Quote:
1.Figures collated from the ministry's VAHAN dashboard and shared by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on October 11 showed an uptick in registration of passenger vehicles and two-wheelers in September,

2.statistics sourced from the same site by the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Associations (FADA) less than a week later revealed a double-digit decline in retail numbers.
SIAM executives are set to meet officials of the National Informatics Centre on Monday to address the discrepancy

1. Wholesale data
2. Retail data
3. Registration data

All three are different and would never match with each other. Getting accurate and timely registration data from all RTOs in India would be very difficult.

Registration data would also include second hand cars that are re-registered. I think FADA data should give the clearest picture.

Don't know about other states, but there is a huge demand for bike taxis (read: Rapido, UberMoto, OlaBike) in Kolkata which might reflect for the increase in 2 wheeler sales.

Dhanteras has been really good for manufacturers...with the likes of MG delivering 700 Hectors and Mercedes delivering over 600 cars.

Mercedes-Benz also announced that it sold off the current GLE 3 months ahead of plan owing to unprecedented customer demand from across India. Mercedes-Benz has hence opened the bookings for the upcoming new generation GLE scheduled to be launched before Auto Expo 2020.

The impending BS6 price hike must have made prospective buyers to make a Beeline for their showrooms. It'll be even more vfm considering it's competitor Audi is committing hara kiri with a petrol only lineup.

Cheer for auto companies as sales pick up to climax the festive season. However it is too early to take a call on the sustainability of the rise beyond the festive season.

Maruti Suzuki delivered more than 60,000 cars in the 10 days of Navratri to Dussehra (October 8), whereas Hyundai Motor delivered over 25,000 cars. On Dhanteras, Maruti Suzuki delivered over 45,000 cars whereas Hyundai delivered about 14,000 cars.

Quote:
New entrants Kia and MG Motors delivered about 3,000 vehicles between them on Dhanteras.
Quote:
Demand has also picked up at the luxury end of the market. Mercedes Benz, after delivering more than 200 cars during the Navratri and Dussehra (in Gujarat and Mumbai alone), sold another 600 on Dhanteras across the country. The company said its top-of-the-line SUV, the GLE, is sold out for three months. BMW India said its top SUV, the X7, is also sold out.
