Re: Rumour: Hyundai MPV to rival Marazzo & Ertiga

Hyundai could revive Hexaspace project to take on Maruti Ertiga.

The possible candidate to take on Ertiga will be based on Hexaspace (HND-7) concept, to be based on Grand-i10 platform.

Rumour: Hyundai MPV to rival Marazzo & Ertiga-hyundaihexaspacempv.jpg

Quote:
While the concept received widely positive reviews, during the progress of the project, Hyundai decided to shelve it due to change in market dynamics to focus on Creta instead. We all know that turned out to be a great decision. The Hyundai MPV was spied on road wearing production ready parts, and was reported canned when the car was a few months away from launch.

Hyundai India CEO SS Kim, stated that there are no immediate plans to enter new segments now but at the same time, a lot of studies are being conducted. He also added that if the market demands an MPV, Hyundai would think seriously about it. As per a source, the company has already started working on a Maruti Ertiga rival, which is expected to be launched by 2021.

If at all the Hyundai Hexaspace MPV project is revived, it would be underpinned by the Grand i10’s platform with heavy localization. The immediate focus, however, would be on upgrading the existing portfolio to BS-6 standards and usher in the next gen Creta, which has already spied on test.
So Hyundai got two guns at its arsenal to take on the MPV segment, Hexaspace to fight Ertiga and Carnival to fight Innova Crysta.

Re: Rumour: Hyundai MPV to rival Marazzo & Ertiga

A car built in on the Grand i10 platform can probably only accommodate the 1.2L petrol engine & a similarly sized diesel engine.

Does this even sound like something that would compete with Ertiga?

Any basic reasonableness will require a Hyundai MPV competing against MS Ertiga, to be based on the i20 platform, with the 1.5L BS-VI Diesel engine that Hyundai plans for the Creta. Similarly, the petrol engine too needs to atleast the the same that 1.6L that Verna gets.

Given that Marazzo has not been able to excite the untapped market between Ertiga and cars like XUV500, IMO Hyundai could choose to have a go in that space.

Going by the specs in the "report", it's like saying that an MPV that is the length of Xcent is planned. Even if true, it would most possibly be targeted well below Ertiga, probably slightly above Renault Triber.

Re: Rumour: Hyundai MPV to rival Marazzo & Ertiga

Syp shots of a Hyundai MPV appears in China. Will this spawn a MPV for the Indian market?

Quote:
It is reported that this car is positioned in the 200,000 yuan mid-to-high end MPV market and will be put into production at the Beijing Hyundai Cangzhou plant and officially meet consumers this year.
Quote:
the car may use a front face design different from other Hyundai ’s current models to meet its MPV model
Quote:
the exterior is that the new car uses traditional MPV side sliding doors and has a more sporty five-spoke rim. Like the exterior, the interior of the new car is also obscured. The irregular multifunctional steering wheel is relatively new in shape. Although the logo in the center of the steering wheel is obscured, it can still be seen as a modern LOGO.
Quote:
The second row is composed of two independent seats, which is the normal operation of the MPV, but from the point of view of the seat design, its configuration may not be high

Re: Rumour: Hyundai MPV to rival Marazzo & Ertiga

A step in the right direction.
If we see today, the Ertiga has no competition whatsoever. The closest MPV that comes to it Mahindra's Shark which begins at around 11 Lakhs On-Road. Hyundai will have an ample space to play around with the pricing, moreover they've the right drivetrain too with the 1.0 GDi & 1.5 CRDi respectively. Anything in the range of 8 - 13 Lakhs (Neck to Neck Verna Pricing) would make it a good deal though I would really want it to dethrone the Ertiga enjoying it's Monopoly in the segment at the moment.

Re: Rumour: Hyundai MPV to rival Marazzo & Ertiga

Only Hyundai has the capability to challenge the Ertiga. (because Toyota will only re-badge the Ertiga)

Wishful thinking, but if they can get it before Maruti has the 1.5 diesel ready, it'd a box office hit from day 1.

The side profile looks stretched! Proportions are a bit off overall. Seems lower in terms of height and width, but rather long. Sliding doors seem to be a differentiator.

However, im not really sure if this is the car that is going to compete with the Ertiga in India.

I think this is the Carnival’s twin. Considering how long and wide this vehicle is. This definitely doesn’t look like a rival to the Ertiga or the Innova.

This was one segment Hyundai didn’t have a car in, unlike the rest (Seltos=Creta; Sportage=Tucson, Forte=Elantra, Optima=Sonata, Telluride=Palisade and Sorrento=SantaFe)

Re: Rumour: Hyundai MPV to rival Marazzo & Ertiga

Oh dear, are all the premium vans gonna mess up their design?

◘ This is not a Ertiga or Marrazo or Crysta — not even a Carnival rival. This is clearly a Lexus LM or Vellfire or V-Class rival. Take a look at its size & long and boxy profile on the outside, opulent interiors.

◘ Oh, and the design — It’s like Hyundai had a checklist of things they wanted to mess up! The side profile is eerily reminiscent of DHL vans. BTW, I read up that it is replacing the Hyundai Starex, a taxi car primarily. Nobody would want this here after how the Evalia flopped.

P.S. What’s with the Custo that was posted previously in this thread? That looks more desirable now.

Sharing the press release here —

Quote:
SEOUL, March 11, 2021 - Hyundai Motor Company today unveiled the teaser images of STARIA, the brand’s new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) lineup. The images show the STARIA Premium, a high-end variant of STARIA standard model.

The STARIA name combines ‘star’ and ‘ria’ , in reference to the vehicle’s future-oriented product values and streamlined design characteristics defined by one curve gesture silhouettes as well as clean and pure body volume.

STARIA reflects Hyundai’s commitment to lead the future mobility industry as a Smart Mobility Solution Provider, under the brand’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity.’ STARIA is equipped with various driver-centric features and futuristic design elements that deliver new experiences for drivers and passengers that make time in transit more productive and worthwhile.

STARIA offers a strikingly futuristic and mysterious exterior, resembling a spaceship. The front is highlighted by a long, horizontal daytime running light and headlamps positioned underneath. The spaceship vibe is echoed by its expansive panoramic windows and lower belt lines, underscoring the openness of the interior. The height of the cabin is also optimized for premium comfort and convenience, making it ideal for both business and family use.

“STARIA is Hyundai’s new MPV lineup that opens up a new mobility era,” said SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Hyundai Design. “STARIA will provide a completely new experience and value proposition for customers through its unprecedented design features.”

STARIA Premium, which will be available in select markets, takes mobility to the next level, sporting premium features and variant-exclusive finishes for a more luxurious look and feel.

Hyundai Motor will unveil more details regarding design features of STARIA and STARIA Premium in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, international publications think that this is the coolest minivan ever! To each, his own.
