What is the future of the Toyota Etios / Liva?

Toyota is not going to work on the Etios not the Liva, they will just leave it to the fleet operators for the next 1-2 years. And I think Toyota is not going to launch any car in the 5-15 lakh segment in the immediate future. The Yaris has been a sales dud, and it looks like the Toyota management is happy with the Innova and the Fortuner for now. They will not make any additional investments, rather wait and watch how they can partner with Suzuki. So the first attempt was the rebadged Baleno, and I see the Brezza being cloned with a little bit more changes in the exterior, may be a new bumper, a different grill and the likes. And this is how they would keep themselves busy for the next 2 years or so. Post which they will either buy Suzuki out or make the partnership much more stronger.

Globally mergers and partnerships are the way to go, considering economies of scale. FCA and PSA have just inked the deal, so I do not think Suzuki can afford to be solo in the next decade, since they are not very strong outside of India.

Re: What is the future of the Toyota Etios / Liva?

Etios liva and Etios sedan are the best taxis of this decade. Amby, Indica now Liva. Still these cars are most sought by taxi fleet owners. Infact I would say these two cars have aged very well in Indian market . If these cars are stopped I'm sure there will be vaccum in commercial segment.

Re: What is the future of the Toyota Etios / Liva?

Looks like Etios twins are leaving the scene. Autocar India says both the cars will be discontinued by April 2020. I think there will be a mad rush from fleet operators to lap up the last few remaining ones. Such is the reputation of Etios twins among the taxi operators.

Quote:

Toyota is all set to pull the plug on its budget car line-up – the Etios sedan, Etios Liva hatchback and Etios Cross – in the run-up to the implementation of BS6 emission norms.
Sources inform Autocar India that Toyota will finally draw the curtains on the Etios line-up, nearly a decade after the debut of the Etios sedan and hatchback at the 2010 Auto Expo. The high investment needed to upgrade the Etios family to meet upcoming emissions and safety regulations means there is no business case for them.

Etios twins discontinued. No replacement planned.

Toyota India gets ready for the next re-badged car out of the Suzuki- Toyota alliance.

If my information is correct than it’s going to be the Brezza and that too in a Hybrid avatar. Let’s see what happens in reality.

Re: What is the future of the Toyota Etios / Liva?

If Fiat's MJD was ruling Indian diesel engine market, these Etios twins were ruling the Indian taxi segment for sure. A wholesome package they were. After Logan Etios was a decent cab that offered taxi fleet operators peace of mind on grounds of reliability. Now these have gone too. Let's see which car is going to capture this space. I don't see an alternative now.

Re: What is the future of the Toyota Etios / Liva?

Hyundai have a golden chance here if they play their cards well to cater to the fleet market. Tata's also if they reinvent the Zest - I feel they should have continued to invest in this (& Bolt) but somehow they abandoned them.

With the Etios brothers leaving the markert, are we going to see a Toyota'ised version of DZire. It's tour version may replace the Etios.
