Oh well, no point ignoring the elephant in the room.
The grill is not built around the car but the car is built around the grill.
I am now keen to see how far they would like to push this obsession.
On a different note, I really dig the model before this upgrade and actually prefer it to the curvier S.

re: BMW 7-Series facelift launched at Rs. 1.22 crore

Does anyone have access to reports from China, in the sense how have they received this monstrous version of kidney grill from BMW? I mean yes, BMW suggests they have done it based on feedback received from Chinese customers, but now that the products are available, what are the Chinese reviewers saying about it?

Just trying to figure the future directions BMW and all other manufacturers will take. If China wants it, we all have to live with it?

Why does this cost more than the X7, and why would anyone get this over an X7 anyway?

Luxury and comforts, I would say and both are two different variants altogether.

The features look amazing even though it's priced sky-high.

Because BMW wants to keep prices of 7 series near to S-Class

7 series does get some extras like Ventilated/ Heat/ Massage seats and the rear lounge. Maybe Air package is only on 7 but rest everything should be the same. X7 gets 4x4, and usually, SUV is more expensive so, Yes, They could have done a better job.

I don't know what sort of guy will pick this at Full price leaving the outgoing one available at less than 1 Cr ex-showroom.

Perhaps the X7 is made in South Carolina where labour costs are cheaper and also gains since the volumes are anticipated to be larger hence economies of scale

Cheaper than India Even though 7 gets more than 90 % of the stuff from Germany ( X7 also gets a lot of things including engines from Germany) I don't think that can be a reason. It's more to do with the positioning and may be anticipated volumes. They have indeed priced the X7 competitively.

Re: BMW 7-Series facelift launched at Rs. 1.22 crore

Poor 7-Series has so many things going against it:

- The mega S-Class which is so much "classier" and opulent

- The hideous & garish face (all thanks to the grille)

- The cheaper X7

- Luxury car sales that are down by 20% overall

BMW seriously couldn't have asked for having it worse.

That's quicker than the last-gen M5 . Wow. But it's almost 3 crores on the road . No man's land, really. Any enthusiast who wants 4-door performance will get the M5 / E63, while others with this kind of a budget will pick up the indisputably luxurious Maybach instead.

The new 7 Series is also offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
This is the only real differentiator of the 7-Series. Some rich dudes might pick it up for the novelty & bragging rights.

The answer should be an emphatic YES. Case in point- BMW sold a total of 11,105 units in India last year. Compare this to China, where they sold over 20,000. Not total units. ONLY the 7 series. Yup, 20,000. 20,000 7-series.

Are these figures India specific?
Asking as the Euro version of this engine in the facelift has gone down to 577 HP due to the added OPF. If true, this might be the first time we're getting more power than the Euros in a Euro car.

Adding some pictures from my side which I took at the launch.

The grille looks way better in person and within a couple of hours you'll forget that it's too big. Look at the pre LCI cars and suddenly they feel outdated. Whatever the BMW designers were smoking it seems to have worked lol.

Getting great deals on the pre LCI 730, being a petrol head and having exchanged my f10 530d for a g30 530i, love being back on a petrol engine, any member has any leads for any dealer having a 740li pre facelift in stock, I don’t mind swapping my E200 for this if available,
Appreciate all leads

That grill! X7 seems to be better with the massive grill (better than 7) for its sheer size. But this one is

Always launching the LWB version of 7 in India seems to look like BMW is missing the few sales it can get from self driven people if priced properly. 7 series LWB demands a chauffeur. My ex boss drives a 750i in the states (that's his daily driver) and he is extremely happy about it and I am sure some Indian residents would too
