I would say the design. Almost everybody in my family and close relatives just loath at me whenever I bring up the topic of buying a Wagon R. They just hate the boxy design.

Swift is in a different league. It also has its own identity for which it is bought. I doubt its sales would get affected much and even if it does its going to be under Maruti kitty. Maruti has to provide these engine options to push sales as they do not have any diesel lineup now. So I would say they are likely to use the 1.2l engine in more and more petrol offerings going forward.

The camouflaged car has the archaic flip-up type door handles. The current generation Celerio has the modern pull-out type ones. I don't think Maruti Suzuki is going to put the older type on the new Celerio. Also, there is no rear wiper on the test mule.

Most of the sites suggest that this test mule seems wider, longer and higher than current Celerio. If that's true I doubt this can be Alto. I too observed the flip up handles first time and that's surly a step down but Wagon R has them too.

This one does not even have alloys which earlier spy shots did so there is a possibility that we are looking at 2 different cars here and one of them can be Alto.

Next-gen Maruti Celerio launch has been postponed to early 2021. It was originally slated to launch in India around Diwali 2020.

Quote:
As per sources, the main reason for postponing the launch of the next-gen Celerio (code name: Suzuki YNC) is the delay from the suppliers’ end.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Next Gen. Celerio will be revealed in 2021. The lifecycle of this should be ~ 7 years, with the facelift coming in 2024.

India will be main market, but the model will be made available in both Thailand and Pakistan. Likely to be called CULTUS in the last two countries mentioned.
Engine models not yet know , but likely to have the 1.0 and 1.2 L petrol engines.

Actually both are slated for 2021 (albeit at opposite ends of the year) and are both undergoing testing.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

I was anxiously waiting for its launch in October as I have to replace my Alto at the earliest. Would it make sense to wait till next year or should I go for Wagon R 1.2 AMT? If rumors regarding specs are true Celerio should have a higher ground clearance which I would definitely appreciate. Am not a big fan of the way Wagon R looks but can live with it if Celerio would be an inferior product as compared to it.

A quick glance at the interiors of the car revealed that this updated model features a completely new interior layout. The car gets a new centre console with two cup holders and centrally mounted front power window switches. A 12V power socket is also seen on the central console. The instrument console, on the other hand, seems to be similar to what is seen in the present model.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

This MAY neither be the new Celerio nor an Alto but one of the recently registered names which were Espaco, Libertas or Solido.

It's bigger than the Alto but has the grille like the K10 and the door handles are not the pull type ones like the Celerio.

If it's below S-Presso and above Alto then I will go with the name Espaco.

People who want a hatchback in the same price range of the S-Presso without its quirky looks may get this.

Range expectation:
Alto > This car and S-Presso > Wagon R > Swift

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

So at least the car now has uniform flap type door handles on all doors + hatch. The current version has pull-type handles on the passenger doors but odd looking flap type latch on the hatch!

Of course - flap type on passenger doors is a step in the wrong direction IMHO. Could have just done away with the hatch flap and added a remote opener.

Slightly but is there any mechanical benefit of having pull type handles versus flap type handles, or is it just aesthetics? Flap type handles are considered less premium but don’t know if there is any functional loss in opting for them.

True that. That too when cars like Beat, Swift, Altroz have the rear door handles as flap type near the rear window it looks like a two door sports hatchback (which I never felt like since me or anyone can see the shutlines). So, it's just for the looks, premium or not depends on the context. May be the keyless request sensors have something to do with it?
