Tata Motors has discontinued the XT variant of the Tiago. The hatchback is now available in 5 variants - XE, XM, XZ, XZO and XZ+.

The XT variant was positioned between the XM and XZ trims. It was offered with steel wheels with full wheel caps, electric ORVMs, Harman infotainment system with 4 speakers, Bluetooth and turn-by-turn navigation, keyless entry among other features.

Safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control, reverse parking sensors, passenger seat belt reminder and speed alert system are now standard across all variants. The base XE trim gets 13-inch wheels with hub caps, air-conditioning, internally adjustable ORVMs, dual-tone interiors and a 2.5-inch MID.

The XM variant gets 13-inch wheels with half wheel caps, manual central locking, power windows and speed depending auto door lock. The new XZ variant gets 14-inch steel wheels with dual-tone wheel caps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, Harman infotainment system with 4 speakers and Bluetooth as well as a multi-function steering wheel.

The XZO trim comes with 14-inch steel rims with dual-tone wheel caps, ORVMs with LED turn signals, front fog lamps, day/night IRVM, rear wiper, washer and defogger, cooled glove box and a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the XZ+ variant gets 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, dual-tone roof, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, height adjustable driver seat, electric folding ORVMs and projector headlamps. The automated manual transmission (AMT) is available in XZA and XZA+ trims.

There has been no change in the powertrain options. The Tiago is available with the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 84 BHP and 114 Nm of torque and a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel that puts out 69 BHP and 140 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

Re: Tata Tiago XT variant discontinued

It's almost like they have renamed XT to XZ and XZ to XZO. Dear Tata, pray tell us what is the point of this exercise! Tata's Marketing and variant feature deciding team needs a serious overhaul.

+1

And they raised the prices by around 30000/- with multi function steering wheel being the only new feature between the erstwhile XT and new XZ.

Re: Tata Tiago XT variant discontinued

With each colour being a different SKU for the dealer, even 3 variants for most MSIL models generated 30 (3 variants, 5 colours 2 engines) SKUs. Add the MT / AT options and the figure can easily go to 45.
What happens at the ground is dealer chooses what will move fast, and stock it. Then, they'll have to push what's in stock.
Plus the fiddling with features. I think Honda is a good example here. Just two variants. (Lowest variants on paper / not pushed). That still is two engines, two transmission options, and five or four colours for each variant- engine - transmission combo.
In other words, there is still room for simplifying things.

And all this applies to the Nexon too.

Re: Tata Tiago XT variant discontinued

Said it before, will say it again.

Tata, in their new avatar with starting with Zest/Bolt, were one of the few companies with clearly demarcated variants E (Entry), M (Mid) & T (Top). Then they went crazy like everyone else, creating Plus, Minus & 'l(O)ok Ma, extra chrome variant badging on my butt' variants.
