Hyundai has made some changes to the variants and features of the new Santro. A leaked image indicates that car may no longer be offered in Era trim.



The base D-Lite variant is now called Era Executive. It comes equipped with front power windows, air-conditioning, body coloured front bumper and dual-tone rear bumper.

The Magna Petrol Manual and Magna CNG variants get a 2-DIN audio system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, front speakers, micro antenna and steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls.

The Sportz AMT variant gets passenger side airbag, seat belt pre-tensioners for front seats and rear view camera. No changes have been made to the Sportz, Sportz CNG, Magna AMT and Asta variants.

The second generation Santro was launched in October 2018. It is powered by a 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 68 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 99 Nm of torque @ 4,500 rpm. On CNG, the engine produces 58 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 84 Nm @ 4,500 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

Good to see passenger air bag and safety features in Sportz AMT, they were missing inexplicably before.

This IMO makes the Sportz AMT a safe entry level automatic car.

The upgrades to the Sportz variant were the major deficiencies of the pre upgrade car. I have the Sportz AMT and the absence of Passenger Airbag and Reverse Camera was/is really irritating.

On another note can anyone advice on whether it's possible to fit the reverse camera from the new variant or the Asta to the old car?

Hi, if the present infrastructure ie head unit, cabling, mounting etc can support the camera then possible. The HASS will be able to confirm this for you.

Good to see the new Era Executive variant with all basic equipment in place. Previous Dlite trim came without AC and was just there to keep the entry price low. Customers had to pay around 40-45k more anyway for the next trim (with AC).

In the previous Magna variant, music system was offered on AMT but not on MT and CNG. Hyundai seems to be correcting various variant goof ups it has made in the past.

Shuoldn't they have included the RPS on all variants as well? I believe that will be mandatory from Jul 1 onwards.

Whats with the phase wise deployment on essentials? i remember crossing out Santro (like so many others) from consideration given the lack of passenger Airbag / reverse camera.

Oh you should hear the price. It has gone up significantly. The ex-showroom now is around 5.64 up from the previous 5.47. I appreciate the fact that the basics are added to the car but it comes at a price.

Surprisingly, no changes were made to the manual Sportz variant. Hence not much of a price increase there.
