Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

It does not look like D segment vehicle.

I think what Mahindra meant by D segment in promo material was "Daddy segment".

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

First I did not like their logo change - It looks like a butler tie or a butterfly - nothing macho about it, rather more finesse in it - which is ironical while their major segment is SUVs and more macho stances.

Scorpio-N looks macho and definitely refined. Probably they are trying to fill the gap created by XUV500 in their portfolio with this. But no where in the league of 30Lakh+ segment cars (quite expected given its pricing).

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I feel the green shade they've chosen to display this new Scorpio is hiding many design cues and thus all these mixed opinions on the design. I believe with a clean white shade, this one will look lot pleasing to the eyes. Coming to the actual car, this one won't be lacking in the engine compartment, and it shouldn't ! The prev gen Scorpio engine is a gem. The first time I took it out on the highway, I was just blown away the way it pulls and pulls and pulls. It's handling did caught me completely off guard though, it's scary !! Hope they've tuned the suspension well and improved it's handling. This 'N' variant will appeal to urban buyers more, for politicos n bunch, the regular Scorpio is there ! The buyer segment for the old Scorpio ain't changing any time soon.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I was driving to my native today from Bangalore. I saw several camo'ed Scorpio heading to BLR. They were covered in cloth and not the usual camo print though. I could make out that it's the new Scorpio by its butch presence and the headlights. Most likely they were headed to showrooms.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I feel the new scorpio N looks very good from front as well as from side.
It seems like matured version of older one.
Tastes differ. But i liked this one better than earlier version.
To me it looks sophisticated.
Hope inside dashboard & general ergonomics are changed too to make it more appealing & different than older one.
Since both 700 & N may be available with same drive train, their is a fear of cannibalisation within Mahindra model itself.

I agree with you that the design of Scorpio-N is not revolutionary by any means - I don't think it is supposed to be either. Mahindra is aware of the cult following that Scorpio enjoys and if they deviate too much from basic design elements that have defined the Scorpio for last 2 decades, it might backfire. Look at what happened to the new Safari. I don't think anyone who has owned the previous gen Safari or Storme would consider the current Safari. I think Scorpio-N's design is evolutionary - brings in a contemporary touch while retaining the basic boxy-ish look that the Scorpio is associated with.

A slight step up roof would have justified the name Scorpio, but still looks bulky and Mahindra!

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Mahindra has let go of Ssangyong but not their design language it seems. To me the Scorpio has a lot of Rexton cues . Very staid. The original body shape looks so contemporary by comparison.

Drive on,

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Well I was never a fan of Mahindra Scorpio. I love the name though. So in my highly neutral view, this is the max Mahindra could do! Keeping in mind the last gen Scorpio, I like what I see and will consider this as a successor.

Reasons;

1. The design, excluding rear door, looks like a step forward.
2. If I go by spy pics, interiors especially the cabin, is also a step forward.
3. Looking at Mahindra's focus on safety, I would safely assume that crashworthiness would be a step forward.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Even though I was critical of the generic looks of the Scorpio N (MUV/X-over looks) & its clambering on board this band-wagon, I have to admit that it is at least presentable in this OG shade!

But the best thing about it - from my perspective - is the fact that it is body-on-chassis, it is primarily RWD, with the option of 4WD, plus the rest of the electronic bells & whistles thrown in as icing on the cake!

Leaving this icing aside, the core construction of the car certainly sets it apart from the rest - in the ruggedness, durability and abuse-friendliness stakes. Now if the 4WD versions come with a proper low ratio transfer case, then it would give some credence (in small measure perhaps) to the "D-segment" gaffe that the promos made - even if the Scorpio N's physical dimensions doesn't quite cut the mustard!

Also one must keep in mind the media reports that the Scorpio N would likely be qualifying for a 5-star G-NCAP rating. Which, if proven true, would boost the cars prospects at the box-office.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

This looks more proportionate than the current Scorpio, not as boxy at least. Also as many pointed out, Jeep Meridian has a stretched end while this from no angle seems stretched to me. The design seems to be like Scorpio and Alturas G4 had a baby (or in this case, daddy). Let's wait and for the car to release to make more criticisms. I still have some hopes.

I happened to see two camouflaged SUV's with what looked like that grill. This was at Bankapur toll plaza, and they were heading towards Bangalore - no pics.

They didnt look too big. And in line with what you said. Will need to see it in person to get a better idea.

More I watch that intro video, more I feel it looks like Bolero Neo. The green shade is also a part culprit.

I second this thought. I believe with the arrival of Scorpio sales of thar might plummet. It is already on the down since XUV. Really confused where Thar 5 door is gonna fit in.

I feel Scorpio is gonna be a blockbuster. Perfectly sized not too big or small, body on frame 4x4, powerful Diesel. Equally attractive for urban and rural folk.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Compared to the old design, this one is really clean and nice. Love the green shade and the black render above is also drool worthy.

If the interiors are good, suspension is improved over the old one and this is priced a few lakhs lower than XUV700, we may see a lot of uptick for it.
