Not quite sure if M&M would reuse the word Stinger though.

There was already a Bolero Stinger from Mahindra Customization; Not that it caught up well :coldsweat

But on a side note, like we have seen previous posts on the name registered by Mahindra, Scorpio Sting could be it.

Since everyone is trying to make an educated guess on what could be the name of the new SUV by Mahindra, let me point out one significant aspect that many have missed surprisingly.

Mahindra always prefers to have its car names (SUVs) end with an 'o'.
E.g.-
Quanto
Verito
Xylo
Bolero
Bolero Neo
Scorpio
KUV 100 (read KUV one double o)
TUV 300 (read TUV three double o)
XUV 300 (read XUV three double o)
XUV 500 (read XUV five double o)
XUV 700 (read XUV seven double o)

The only exception is the Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Alturas G4, and older Mahindra SUVs. So, they would keep the name ending with 'o' as the first choice, which leaves us with the two most apparent nameplates Scorpio and XUV 500.

Or a combination of the old names. Example - Scolero, Bolpio. :D

Are they going to keep it like that ? It would look like GLOSTER which will of course be a disaster!

Considering how weird the current car names are (SPresso, Xcent, Brezza, Marazzo, Alcazar, Kona, KUV, XUV five-double-O, seven-double-O...), they can always make any word as ending with "O". Example: Stingero, Scorpio Classico, Scropio seven-double-O... (Glad that they didn't select the name "Tharo"). May be they will name it after a forest (GirO), a plateau (DeccanO) or a national park (CorbetO). Who knows!

My guess is they will come up with different name than Scorpio as current one will be in market. Some new name will be good actually for all new SUV.

When he was in Tata, Pratap Bose was recreating the old names like Safari and Sierra (for the EV concept). (Not sure whose decision was that, though). So, there are chances for retaining the Scorpio name.

Hope they will not call it Scorpio - Daddy ! Advertising has Daddy thing all over it, Daddy of all SUV's :)

Also marks a day after the Meridian reveals all their cards. :D

However, I won't be surprised if the media drives and pre-bookings start only by August 15th, with the price announcements scheduled for October 2nd - going by Mahindra's usual selection of dates.

Body on frame platforms really don't have space for a boot if they get three rows of seats. The reason being that to reduce the knees up effect in the third row, they need to position the rearmost row far back or increase the headroom by making an unsightly bulge in the roof. Since aerodynamics would call for a flat roof, the compromise is in the boot space.
The other way to do it is to go for a cab forward design (Innova, Hexa), which leaves you with a MUV shape.

Mahindra SUV with code name Z254 spotted on Nashik-Pune highway. Which one is this guys? Mahindra registered the name Sting some time ago but this one resembles Scorpio.

I think it is a marketing technique by Car Making Companies, to carry out test drives of these so-called camouflage cars with badges and that too in broad daylight on jam-packed roads. However, as far as this big daddy of SUVs is concerned, the pricing will play a crucial role in the sales figures.

I am then curious, how the Fortuner and the Endeavour manage to have 200 and 400 Litres of boot space with all 3 rows up.

Of course, Scorpio (referring to the current gen here) has some space below the 3rd row bench seat, but if all the rows were to be occupied, then, hauling even one hard-shelled luggage would really be a problem, unless you have a roof rack.

And I do not see many of the 3-row monocoque crossovers (referring to Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the Mahindra XUV700) having any boot space either.

So, I do not think the chassis entirely decides a car's boot space.

Slightly off-topic:OT, yet related: I remember reading something in relation to the ground clearance and the length of the car - which decides the taxation. Also that the OEMs carefully decide on these numbers while not washing away the sentiment of a 3-row SUV/Crossover and still falling into a favourable taxation bracket.

Is there any chance of a 5 seater version of the Scorpio?
