re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Saw a Test Mule of the next gen Scorpio and the recently launched XUV700 under camouflage, testing in heavy city traffic in Dehradun twice, on the main Rajpur Road. They might be doing heavy traffic and hilly testing, but not sure why they are testing the XUV700 still! The next gen Scorpio is a huge vehicle under the wraps, has good street presence and towers over most cars on the road. Couldn't click any pictures sadly.

Hey guys, we are planning to get a SUV next year around Feb-March, what do you guys think would be the price bracket in which Scorpio would be launched? Will it be cheaper than the Xuv700 and also when can we expect it to be in the showrooms?

If the pricing of the XUV700 is to go by then Mahindra will be pricing the next gen Scorpio pretty close to the present one without any major increment and maybe even a small decrease.

The present one pretty much overlaps with the MX, AX3 and AX5 of the present Scorpio. The next gen one might touch AX7 levels for it may bring Automatics and 4WD/AWD to the table.

Saw the test mule again today (almost everyday affair for me), looks like compromise has been made for the boot space, I could see the 3rd row headrest almost touching the rear window.

The crash looks nasty, hope the driver and other folks in the vehicle are safe. The crumbling of engine hood seems pretty weird, not sure if that's the correct way a hood should crumble or fold during a crash

Bingo! This adds more strength to my thoughts that there is hardly any increase in the length of this new generation Scorpio as opposed to many media reports that claimed that it is going to be longer. And of course, to my pair of eyes that scans my car on a daily basis, the side profile spy shots definitely appear as if there is no increase in the length (except a slight inward angulation of the rear windshield).

But yes, I would love to have my theory debunked
It is just a matter of time now.

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Spotted 2 Scorpio test mules being driven pretty rashly in dense traffic in Dehradun yesterday. The car looks pretty imposing from whichever side you look at it.

Spotted a convoy of Scorpio's and XUV 700's doing testing on the outskirts of Dehradun a week or so back as well but couldn't take pictures then.

Wow! Mahindra seems to be even crash-testing their test mules on public roads to simulate real life conditions! First the XUV700 and now the Scorpio! Somebody needs to PM Anand Mahindra to not take the GNCAP scores too seriously!

WOOHOOO!!!!

The next gen Scorpio gets the infotainment control knob, (though at the expense of a cup holder), and unlike fancy XUV700, one doesn't have to choose between infotainment control knob and Electronic Parking Brake.

Though I remember fiddling around the XUV700 online configurator, and in the second from top variants, the interiors showed the infotainment control knob in place of one of the cupholder, with the manual handbrake still in place. But in reality, only the top most variant gets the media control knob, with the cupholders staying put, and the removal of the manual handbrake freeing up space for the EPB and media control knob.

I am okay with analogue dials, but if they manage to integrate maps/ navigation into the central TFT screen, would be icing on the cake as far as interiors are concerned. Oh, also please Mahindra. Give proper grab handles on the A pillar.

Edit: Now I am feeling stupid. (where is our old i am stupid smilie?). It is a knob for off road mode selection. Not really a bummer, as volume/ tuning knobs are already present in the dashboard.

Location seems to be starting mile of Pune-Bangalore by-pass near MCA cricket stadium in Pune outskirts.

The front 3/4 view looks a lot better IMHO than any SUVs below Fortuner range, gives me vibes of new-gen LR Defender. Neat packaging of old school boxy Body-On-Frame with Modern touches to exterior.

This car may turn out to be holy grail of affordable Body-On-Frame, RWD/4x4, Modern interiors and comfortable cabin ride.

Mahindra and Hyundai twins are no doubt going to rule this entire 12-25 lac range. TATA will mostly benefit from cancellations or long waiting periods of these cars unless they come with mid-life facelift with primarily revamped MID and Infotainment.

AWD on a Body-on-frame SUV seems like an oxymoron, that too on a “tough” reputation like the Scorpio.
No “traditional” 4WD?

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

From the picture, all I can is that - More than meets the eye. What if there is also a locking diff switch somewhere because I do see two more buttons under the knob or maybe its a reflection.

It would be a bold move from Mahindra to move Scorpio from the conventional 4x4 to something between an AWD+4WD and it will be priced/positioned somewhere between Thar and XUV700. Fingers crossed and waiting for the final unveil.

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

The test mules look an awful lot like the erstwhile Tata Sumo. Hope Mahindra offers a sleeker grill. Also, the height seems less as compared to the current Scorpio. The price point at which Mahindra pits the new gen Scorpio a.k.a Sting will be interesting.
