The Audi A4 went into production in 1994, replacing the Audi 80 series. In 1995, Audi built 2,72,052 units of the A4. Ever since, the company has sold more than 7.5 million units of the model globally. Now, in its fifth generation, A4 is said to be the most popular Audi model with 3,44,586 units sold in 2018.

In India, the Audi A4 is built in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. It is available with two engine options including a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder petrol unit that produces 148 BHP @ 5,000-6,000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,500-3,500 rpm and a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel that makes 188 BHP @ 3,800-4,200 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,750-3,000 rpm. Both engines come paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Re: Audi A4 celebrates its 25th birthday

Congratulation to Audi on this milestone, and wish the A4 a very happy 25th birthday!

A4 is a beautiful little car, and has always been one of my favorites. It is a bit sad that in India they don't offer Quattro in A4 (Quattro is what makes A4 the brilliant machine it globally is), and also sad that they offer only the 1.4TSi petrol motor in India. But in international market, with powerful petrol engines and the legendary Quattro AWD systems, the A4 remains a brilliant machine!

Whenever I think of A4, it always remind me on my 2001 A4 that I had in the US. It was the 1.8TSi motor (in its early days that time - now a universal motor for VAG) with a beautiful slick manual gearbox. And of course, the Quattro! It was the first German car I owned, and boy, it was a lovely car.

Can't resist sharing a couple of old pictures from 2001. Can't believe it has already been so many years since then! Time flies!

Re: Audi A4 celebrates its 25th birthday

Wow, a silver jubilee! Happy birthday to the A4.

My most memorable A4 drive was the 3.2 FSI in the late-2000s. It was one heck of a car. Imagine 265 horses back then, from a high-revving petrol.

The current A4 has been rejected by Indian customers for being too boring & too similar to the last generation. No facelift is going to help its cause. Let's hope the 6th-gen brings the spice back.
