Re: Slowdown bites hard: 205 dealers shut down, Rs 2000 crore losses & 3000 jobs lost

Came across this article on my news feed today morning.

https://tribune.com.pk/story/2077629...ndustry/?amp=1

The article gives an idea about the size and state of economy across the Western border.

Re: Slowdown bites hard: 205 dealers shut down, Rs 2000 crore losses & 3000 jobs lost

Kia and MG have come in to a rousing welcome. People were, more or less, unhappy with the home grown/established companies. Even the products were not loaded to the gills with features, latest international cars/tech hardly came in, showroom experience is/continues to be very gloomy. So have any lessons been picked up by the oldies from the newbies? Or will it be business as usual? 'We need to innovate the shit out of this slowdown'!

Latest addition to the shutdown in my part of country would be a dealership each of Renault, Jeep/FCA, Honda and Ford in Patna. They were all located next to each other. Saw them all shut with boards and almost everything removed from the premises on this Sunday. On the other hand, surprisingly both the Maruti dealership at my place have been consistently selling well.

So, launching Triber/facelift Kwid won't help till they change their attitude for a more customer friendly approach in service department.

These outlets were at Kankerbagh road(?) The road leading to the Ganges bridge, when we exit Rajendra Nagar RS & Dhanush setu? I still haven't gotten the hang of Patna.

Sad to see Jeep shutting shop at Patna, so where would the Compass customers get their ride serviced?

Honda & Ford as well? This is not right. Honda is doing okay as is Ford.

Is Skoda & VW functioning there?

Yes, these outlets were at Kankerbagh road. The location is spot on. All 3 outlets were next to each other.

No idea.

Vaishali Honda is functional and so is Aarav Ford. Brij Honda and Prema Ford have shut these outlets. No idea if they have branches elsewhere. These showrooms were huge with good glass area.

VW is there. Skoda had an outlet just opposite these, now Tata showroom is there in same outlet.

.
As other outlets have been doing, they just may move to Kia/MG or maybe any other brand/s.

But yes, there is a slowdown. My bank's manager was asking me for leads for people who would be interested in financing a new car.

I casually asked a relative of mine working as a BM in Bank of Baroda regarding how auto loans are progressing considering Diwali and Chhath is round the corner, he said that there is shortage of hands to deal with files for auto loan! There are many people who have applied for it. This does mean that there may be some better sales this month. Another point is that the Maruti Arena here has been selling in good numbers. And when I asked them about slowdown, they laughed at me and said, what slowdown?

But on the other hand, the Kia showroom being constructed on outskirts of city has not shown any progress since last 2 months. No work is going on right now.

Year end discounts will pull in the buyers. But, like I mentioned somewhere, attitudes will not change. They will still short change the customer, and pull up old tricks. Nothing changes on-ground.

Slowdown eases a bit. Festive cheer for car OEMs.
Quote:
India’s car makers have reason to cheer, having got a festive season bump after six months of plummeting sales. Sales rose 5-7% this Navratri, Dussehra and Dhanteras from the year-earlier numbers for the same festive period.

Good growth compared to September 19 and slight incremental numbers on YOY figures.

Every manufacturer has grown MOM but just Renault has shown good growth YOY. Maruti and VW showing slight growth. Rest all have degrown YOY. Most in double digits.

PS: These contain approximate numbers for few manufacturers.

Indian Auto Industry back in green!

October auto results look really good (from the bottom that we were in). And remember this is wholesale numbers and not retail, which are said to be highest ever for some companies like Bajaj and M&M according to their press releases.

I compiled as many as auto results I could find today and to add some context I added the Month-on-Month growth, something which gets lost in the newspaper headlines talking about 'plunging' sales.

Check out who is it at no 5.

Maruti Suzuki, Renault and Volkswagen shows positive growth (Y-O-Y). But is this a sustainable growth or is purely on the sentiments of festive season added with discounts?
Along with Datsun, guess Nissan too should exit the Indian market.

Fiat could still survive on their engine business with Maruti speculated to resume its engine sourcing.

Suzuki set to go slow on third plant in Gujarat.
Quote:
NEW DELHI: The slowdown in the car market and pressure on Maruti’s sales is prompting its Japanese parent Suzuki to go slow in its India expansion.

After setting up its independent manufacturing factory in Gujarat (which supplies vehicles to Maruti), Suzuki is understood to have slowed the construction of a third plant, which was to begin production in the fourth quarter of this fiscal, with an investment of nearly Rs 3,800 crore.

The development comes within days of Suzuki announcing at its annual financial performance in Japan that Maruti’s sales in India could fall by 20% this fiscal, against a previous forecast which had predicted a 4% growth.
