"Maruti S-Cross Diesel Discontinued, Petrol To Debut At Auto Expo 2020".

Moreover, with the popularity of the diesel engines on a decline in the lower segments, it makes incredible sense for the company to plonk a petrol mill into the engine bay of its crossover. So, with this, the 2020 Maruti S-Cross will be seen kitted out with the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that also powers the Ciaz and the Ertiga."
I am pretty much sure the 1.5 Diesel will come back once it gets BS6 compliant.

S Cross is showcased at the Auto show- Now comes in Petrol only with a choice of 5 MT or 4 AT

It makes 103 HP and 138 Nm and is available with a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque convertor. This engine also comes with Maruti’s SHVS hybrid tech.

re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

S Cross BS6 (Petrol) launching in March-20.

The S-cross, like the Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6, all also share the same 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox options.

Quote:
However, unlike the Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6, the S-cross will only get Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid system in petrol-automatic form; the petrol-manual S-cross will not get the tech
Expect a slight drop in the current model’s prices as it moves to a Petrol only variant.

Saw a video on youtube showing the expo car inside out, and sadly, there was no rear vents for the rear. Zero changes, actually.

re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

Hope the hybrid helps FE. Petrol SUVs are not exactly known for their FE. 4-speed auto, though sounds stone-age, is actually good, as I found out in XL6 AT I drove recently, which also uses the same set-up. I never liked the old S-Cross but the facelift has changed the front end to very appealing. If priced right, it could veer some of the customers off petrol Creta AT and Seltos AT. The cross-over squat shape of S-Cross has less body-roll than the SUVs, a trait many are looking for these days.

Launching the Petrol at a slightly lesser price than current Diesel won't help Maruti (how can you do that crime, Maruti?). This is because S-Cross don't have the visual appeal of the likes of Seltos.

The price has to be atleast 1 Lakh less than the current Diesel base variant, at around 7.5L. This way, some top end hatch buyers may also shift to S-Cross.

re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

It will be interesting to see the fuel efficiency figures of 1.5 petrol S Cross. For reference updated Brezza (1.5 Petrol) figures are 17.03 Kmpl (MT) and 18.76 Kmpl for (SHVS-AT).

The lack of Diesel engine option and low fuel efficiency figures will lead to decrease in the sales of a really competent car.

I guess the FE of Petrol SCross should be better than the Brezza as it's more aerodynamic not withstanding the weight.

It might actually sell better as the price will come down and not everyone needs a diesel. As long as the driveability is good, it will sell.

Let’s hope so. If given a choice between petrol Brezza and petrol S Cross, I would any day choose the S cross, if the driveability is good.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Petrol teaser out

Thanks to Abid Iqbal for sending this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

A teaser page of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Petrol is now live on the Nexa website.

Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs-scross.jpg

The S-Cross is expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. The same engine is available in the Ciaz and Ertiga. In these cars, the engine produces 103 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm @ 4,400 rpm. The S-Cross could come with a choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

The S-Cross is no longer available with a diesel engine. The 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder unit that once powered the S-Cross has been discontinued. It produced 89 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm.

With brezza losing the pricing advantage (as it is no longer eligible for lower tax), it'll be interesting to see how Maruti prices petrol S-Cross. Should be close to brezza i guess unless they load it with significantly different features

re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

There is a clear lack of planning from Maruti's side.

1. S-Cross was a slow-seller even in Diesel form. Now they are bringing the Petrol-only model without changes in design. They failed again to understand that the problem is with the design of the car and not with anything else.
2. Why an updated S-cross now, when the new bigger SUV from Maruti is rumored to be getting ready, unless there is a clear price gap? But then again, if there is a big price gap, the new SUV is designed to fail as it can't compete with the Seltos and Creta.
3. The initial decision to launch S-Cross here instead of the international Vitara. Indians rate design and value more than anything else.
4. The 1.2L DualJet engine is introduced in DZire just months after it got the BS-6 1.2L Petrol engine.
5. Swift is also rumored to get the DualJet motor soon just months after it became BS-6 ready.
6. Brezza is now launched with the 1.5L Petrol engine with 103BHP, and gets no tax benefit and priced way above the expectations. It could have easily used the 90BHP DualJet engine, and enjoy the tax benefit to price it significantly lower - to the tune of 1 lakh. Hey, that's a big money!
7. The 1.5L Diesel engine story is another example. It is introduced in BS-4 form just months before the BS-6 timeline.
8. Then they decided not to upgrade it to BS-6.
9. Now, when others introduced the BS-6 version of the diesel engines with minimal price difference, Maruti is "studying" the market response.
10. Ignis - the rear spoils the otherwise-fantastic car. They didn't do anything significant to correct the rear design even in the recent face-lift.
11. The initial decision not to launch Jimny here was another mistake. If they launch only the 5-door version here, it will be another mistake.

Earlier also, they have done their share of wrong decisions:

12. Pricing the 1.6 DDiS S-Cross at 3 lakh above the actual price. Though corrected later, it had done enough damages.
13. Bringing the sedan version of the original SX4 instead of the SUV. Had it been introduced it here, it would have been the first such SUV, and would have captured the market nicely.
14. Launched the Mr Wagon from Japan as "Zen" Estilo in India and destroyed the "Zen" nameplate. All others in this side of the planet knows Zen is a classic design but they themselves didn't realise it!
15. Not realising the potential of a re-designed Ritz. Such a practical car, but was spoiled by its egg-shaped design.
