2019 Maruti Alto 800 facelift spotted. EDIT : Now launched @ Rs. 2.94 lakhs

The updated Maruti Alto 800 has been spotted at a dealer stockyard. The new model comes with refreshed exteriors and interiors as well as added safety features.

According to the spy image, the new Alto 800 gets a revised front bumper with a trapezoidal air dam and a redesigned black grille. The car comes with dual-tone interiors and gets the same dashboard and 3-spoke steering wheel from the Alto K10. The centre console houses a 2-DIN audio system.

The new Alto 800 is expected to be offered with the same 796cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 47 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 69 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm. It is likely to be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Also, as per new safety regulations, the Alto 800 will be offered with ABS, driver side airbag, reverse parking sensors, speed alert system and front seat belt reminders as standard.

now the big question is, is this just a stop gap update or this new model is crash test compliant and will be sold post the August 2019 deadline?

Unlikely to be a stop-gap measure as there are a lot of changes to this one, even in comparison to the tweaks made in 2015 (?) for a more important mid-life facelift.

Given this car's market demand, Maruti could have easily pulled it off for a few more months by adding only the mandatory features which is not the case.

Quite possible that the Alto will continue to be on sale with some changes to pass the crash tests and the Future S based micro-SUV will be introduced as an all-new product. Again, something that only Maruti can pull off!

I think the Future S will be the replacement for the Alto. But only in the long run.

Just like the Alto replaced the 800 gradually, the Future S will replace the Alto as people and safety regulations move with the times.

That's a lot of changes for a stop gap. Dashboard gets a make over. Front gets a makeover. All this for four months of sale, hardly think so. Alto is here to stay, with Future S getting a new name.

Future S aka Y1K would be a separate car on the lines of Ignis or Hustler ( micro SUV shape). My sources inform me a launch date near Dussehra.

Looks more like a Celerio to me. I think they are still using auto rickshaw tires on this one too.

Can someone enlighten me of the new crash safety norms. Does it only complies the use of dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS, speed alert etc. and optional stronger chassis, frontal impact protection etc.

What's also noteworthy is that all variants are now BS6 and I am seeing a price difference of around 20k across variants.

Maruti Suzuki has launched the updated Alto at prices starting from Rs. 2,93,689 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The new Alto measures 3,445 mm in length, 1,490 mm in width, 1,475 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,360 mm. The car comes with a 35 litre fuel tank. It is available in six colours - Uptown Red, Superior White, Silky Silver, Granite Grey, Mojito Green and Cerulian Blue.

So there is only ~20K price increase for ABS+EBD, Airbag, Rear sensors, Updated structure for crash norms, AND updated Engine for BS VI ?!

WOW ! I'm impressed.

Why did Maruti made lot of noise on these aspects (BS-VI & Safety up-gradation) earlier ?

Side note : The Alto 800 facelift’s fuel efficiency figure is rated at 22.05kpl, which is notably lower than the BS-IV model’s 24.7kpl. But the engine still puts out the same 48hp and 69Nm as the pre-facelift model. Is this trend which we'll see in other cars as well ?
