The guy we spoke to is now saying 25.55 which is more like it. But I still don't understand the approximate price beak up:
Ex showroom price: 19.99L
RTO: almost 4L
TCS: 20k
Depot charges: 20L
Insurance: 1L
Some allied charges like registration, etc

Are RTO charges so wildly different in states? The posts on pg 27 mention RTO tax of 2 - 2.6L in Delhi which is around the 12% RTO tax rate I thought to be correct. Why is it so high in Maharashtra?

I was told that the essential kit includes floor mats and mud flaps.
And handling charges includes PDI charges and other logistics. Have not discussed these in detail yet.

But there is one good news you can take solace in. The earlier GT TSI's had a lot of import content vs the latter ones and the quality of parts were overall better than the the later ones which were localized very heavily. They also lost features in between and that meant the first GT TSI had more features than the one in 2015-16.

No confusions
So I did check my car's VIN and it starts with 'W'. I've attached the pic here and so I looked up and indeed, like agambhandari says, W is made in Germany, so my car is CBU right?! Whoooopieeeee

This has so made my day, how much I've cursed the poor dealership guy in the last few days! I shall have to atone my sins and agambhandari my friend, I owe you one.

Sorry to break the bubble again. Our VW Vento also has a VIN starting with WVWxxxxxxxxxxxx. And Vento's are made in India, Russia and Malaysia according to Wikipedia. Not Germany. Sorry

Getting back to the main topic, the interior space and plastic quality offered on the T-Roc is absolutely depressing. The Kia Seltos will still be the pick from the segment. I hope the Skoda Kamiq will be a good representation from the Europeans in this segment.

Well thanks, but no matter what website I look up (wikipedia included), the 1st letter apparently refers to country and W is Germany.

I should have done this earlier i.e. do a proper google search.

Here's what I found:
Quote:
1. Digits 1-3: World Manufacturer Identifier
For Volkswagens, the most common 3-digit WMIs you’ll see are:

WVW - Volkswagen Cars
WVG - Volkswagen SUVs (G for Gelande)
WV1 - Volkswagen Commercials
WV2 - Volkswagen Bus, Van
WV3 - Volkswagen Trucks
VWV - Volkswagen Spain
AAV - Volkswagen South Africa
1VW - Volkswagen USA (cars)
1V1 - Volkswagen USA (commercials)
3VW - Volkswagen Mexico
8AW - Volkswagen Argentina
9BW - Volkswagen Brazil
WAU - Audi
TRU - Audi Hungary
93V - Audi Brazil

Digit 11: This is the exact place where that Volkswagen was made. VW has tried to assign specific characters for each of its factories, although there have been some double-ups. If in doubt, consult Digit 1 which gives the region (see above). The codes are:

A - Ingolstadt, Germany
B - Brussels, Belgium
C - Chattanooga, USA
D - Bratislava, Slovakia
E - Emden, Germany
F - Ipiranga / Resende, Brazil
G - Graz, Austria
H - Hanover, Germany
K - Osnabrück, Germany
L - Lagos, Nigeria
M - Puebla, Mexico
N - Neckarsulm, Germany
P - Mosel, Germany
P - Anchieta, Brazil
R - Martorell, Spain
S - Salzgitter, Germany
T - Sarajevo, Yugoslavia (up to 1994)
T - Taubaté, Brazil
U - Uitenhage, South Africa
V - Westmoreland, USA (up to 1994)
V - Palmela, Portugal (from 1994)
W - Wolfsburg, Germany
X - Poznan, Poland
Y - Pamplona, Spain
1 - Győr, Hungary
2 - Anting, China
3 - Changchun, China
4 - Curitiba, Brazil
6 - Düsseldorf, Germany (Mercedes-Benz)
7 - Ludwigsfelde, Germany (Mercedes-Benz)
8 - Dresden, Germany
8 - General Pacheco, Argentina
9 - Wrzesnia, Poland
Source:http://www.clubvw.org.au/vwvin

The 11th digit shown in the VIN code in our car is T. I guess after 1994, T refers to India and not Yugoslavia.

Can't guarantee that it's cbu but yes it could be a CKD like the most higher models have it. The vin starting with W could show that.

Anyone got a test drive yet. The PPS folks are not able to activate the car since last 10 days. Apparently some code has to be entered into the car before test drives can happen.

I spoke to Palace Cross SA as well. Some updates are expected from Germany and he was wondering about the time they are taking. The updates are expected sometime during next week.

I spoke to Whitefield folks as well. They were just unsure when it can be made unavailable.

BTW,
Palace Cross has Kurkuma Yellow on display.
VW whitefield (Apple Auto) have Indium Grey on display.
