After the Swift fiasco from 2018, we finally decided to get a second car given the numerous trips my wifey was making on a daily basis. My first choice was the S-Presso, and we promptly got our test drive done in an AMT.

First impressions were, well quite obvious ones, a) wafer thin doors that dont even have enough inertia to shut themselves, b) glaringly shoddy rear wheel arches that expose everything including brake wires, c) very uninspiring side looks, d) minimal center instrument cluster, and e) a decent engine, but one that refuses to lug you from zero over an incline.

With the look factor playing on my mind, the salesperson took me to the showroom and showed me a dressed up avatar of the S-Presso with front & side mouldings, alloys, DRLs, the whole shebang. But when I realised that even the chrome in the front grill was an addon, I realised what MS was doing. The price was kept low to ensure its placement in the affordable category but in reality, no one in their right mind would refuse the 12k package that includes DRLs, chrome grills and one more thing that I forget. The asking price for Vxi+ was around 5.25L, needless to say it would have been a bitter pill.

Final Outcome: Booked Santro Sportz at 6.00L including reverse camera addon. Delivery is 24/25 Feb!

Finally got the Spresso delivered last evening and it was dark by the time formalities were done. The delivery process was fine with customary cake cutting, the usual basic feature explanations, etc. The registration number will come today and plate will take a week to arrive.

Just after the delivery, we were stuck in massive traffic jam and this being our first Automatic, took a while to get used to the changes. In other words, first drive through dense Bangalore traffic was a bit tensed. A few initial observations are that suspension feels on the stiffer side on the same familiar roads, compared to the previous alto. Not sure if its a good or bad thing, but the road undulations are felt much more in comparison. Secondly, the gap between the accelerator and brake pedal felt a bit more, where one has to almost move the foot from one pedal to another, where as in the alto, with the clutch pedal also being present, there distance between accelerator and brake pedal was not much, and foot could be pivoted at the heel to shift from one pedal to the other. Also, the brake pedal felt as if its protruding out a bit too much, wonder if there is way to adjust the pedal position / make it less protruding out. Rest of the things are pretty much in line with expectation. Sharing couple of pics we took in the dark. The colour appears much dark in the pic, in real its only dark grey.

Please check the tyre pressures. The tyres are very often over inflated at the showroom. The ride should hopefully improve after setting the tyre pressures to the correct values.

We opted for the reverse parking camera too where the visual display is connected to the infotainment screen. Please note that the rear camera view does not have any superimposed lines to help 'guide' the car. In addition, we asked for rainguard for the doors, the door protection beading, the DRL combo and under chassis coating. We may look at a simple seat cover from third party in near future. The headlights seem ok for the city driving, so dont think we need to look at better bulb (i was considering this earlier). We exchanged our old alto and got a good price from the true value and also 15k exchange discount apart from the 10k dealer cash discount. They also gave some discounts on accessories. Wifey is been driving the car to work for last couple of days and is slowly getting used to automatic. Happy so far, so all is well in the end. Looking forward to trouble free ownership with the spresso like we had with the alto. Fingers crossed!

Ride will be stiffer in a new car compared to the worn suspension of the old one. This is expected. Also - you are sitting higher up than the Alto. So lateral movement is more than the alto on same undulations. Same theory as why earth-quakes are felt more on higher floors of a building.

This is generally a design trend now & its good. This ensures that the A & B pedals are in different planes & the driver doesn't accidentally press both at the same time causing mechanical damage or mishaps in case of panic braking situations. You/wife will get used to this within a day. Not a big deal.

Congratulations on the new car! Wish you & your family many happy miles with it. Its a small Maruti hatchback. Very little chance that the ownership won't be simple & niggle free just like the Alto you had.

So you booked the Santro Sportz AMT or MT? At 6L if you got the AMT - nice deal! If MT - did you check out the Ignis?
