Perfectly put. That's all it is and should be bought for being so, rather than expecting it to be a UV.

That's good to know. My previous car(2010 Estilo) with same 1.0L was pathetic on this front. With AC on it was almost impossible crossing bangalore speed breakers in 2nd gear.

Are we giving hyundai more credit than it deserves? 2-star NCAP rating with unstable bodyshell for the santro which is exactly similar to Wagon-R. Doesn't really say hyundai being built much better.

They launched this abomination instead of the Jimny. Its a massacre to the eyes. Automobiles are love affairs and aesthetics form a major part of that. But no. they had to launch this instead of the Jimny.

That's a good summary GTO.

I saw the Espresso at my office campus this week and the first thing that came to my mind was it looked more like Mahindra than Maruti. Actually the car looked stunning to me.

Re: Maruti S-Presso, the SUV'ish hatchback. EDIT : Launched at Rs. 3.69 lakhs

GTO - It will be great to know the product roadmap in your review, i.e. does Maruti have plans to plug in the 1.2L Swift engine soon and when is the next version expected?

Also, any comparisons with the Wagon R and Celerio will be helpful in the review because by just paying a few more bucks, buyers can reach their price points as well.

• Weird steering is poorly calibrated.... The steering absolutely lacks self-centering. On a long left-hand curve of the highway and another on the Sealink, I left the steering in the middle (of the curve). Guess what? The S-Presso held its line and continued taking the turn perfectly (didn’t center back at all!!).

• I took a right turn at a signal and after the turn, I left the steering. It’s stuck in that right turn position only . I had to manually straighten it. My antique Mahindra Jeep steering needs the same straightening after a turn. I’ve not driven any modern car that behaves like this.
I understood from an Ignis thread by vibhanshu this behavior is designed in by Maruti and is a conscious decision:

"...NFT says, the steering engineered .... has taken account for fast lane changes (for a tall boy), handling, to avoid oversteer and additional ruggedness for underbody. That's why the tolerances of mechanical are tightened up. The side effect of that could be a steering that initially hard but will open up over time. A conscious decision was taken to keep the steering this way and was approved overall. So what I'm experiencing right now is not abnormal or outside of manufacturing or design specifications..."

The front view with the crazy bumper design looks like one car is sitting on top of another. Looks real weird.

Re: Maruti S-Presso, the SUV'ish hatchback. EDIT : Launched at Rs. 3.69 lakhs

Insiders from Maruti say that the car has close to 20k bookings. And of the 17-18k odd dispatched in last two months, less than half have been delivered to end customers. Rest all are test drive cars and demo cars. So, actual sales performance of the car has to be checked out in the next three months, especially the next month when the festival euphoria dies down.

It will be interesting to see GNCAP results of this car. Is it BNVSAP ready?

Knowing how some Maruti's have fared recently in NCAP and previous track record, I am not holding high hopes for this car. Given the segment it is in, manufacturer record, and safety features mentioned in forum - looks like 1/2 star. However, these are my thoughts - will have to wait for actual results whenever they come

I don't see any reason why this would fare any better in GNCAP tests than its more premium counterparts from same stable(swift/wagon-R). At best a 1 or 2-star with unstable bodyshell. Might be worse. It's a small city car and the usage should be restricted to it from safety POV. Period!!!
