Volkswagen Motorsport has created an experimental track car that will be unveiled next week at Chennai.
Built by Volkswagen Motorsport India's race shop in Pune, it is a one-off based on the VW Polo. The car is not built to comply with any racing or rallying regulations in India. The vents on the tail gate suggest that it might have rear-mounted radiators similar to the setup on a Rallycross car. The car also has a rear spoiler and roof scoop, while the rear bumper appears to be stock.
The Ameo and Vento-based race cars that compete in championships conducted by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) are powered by 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engines that produce 205 BHP and 210 BHP respectively. The engines are paired with sequential transmissions. The cars also feature roll cages, racing seats with racing harnesses, updated suspension, wheels and brakes.
The one-off track car could feature a derestricted version of the 1.8-litre engine along with all the essential racing bits. We can expect VW to reveal more information about the new track car and its powertrain next week.

Hey all! VW Motorsport has just unveiled the Polo RX, a special one-off rear-engine rear-wheel drive project car :D !

Why cant VW get their latest Polo or Golf GTi that can both be homologated and sold in stock form and also easier to tune to the tracks?

And not at insane pricing levels. They released the Polo GTI at 25 lakh ex-showroom couple of years back and it did not sell well at all.
Well brilliant ! What this actually shows is that VW India have been selling the same Polo with a million different special edition stickers and limited editions for a decade now. Something that the folks at Hero Motors would be impressed with! clap:
Come on VW India, the world has moved on to new Polo based on an all-new platform - which is not even in sight for India. What happened to the promised VW Up! ? Din't make it to our shores.

Hopefully Skoda will take some interesting decisions and steer VW India out from this lull.
