Re: Tata Blackbird: Creta-rivaling SUV being developed

I may be wrong, but I think there were issues with Nexon's platform being incapable of being modified to fill this gap. Nexon, Tiago, and Tigor are based on their old platforms, with Alrtoz and Harrier being based on the newer ones. If memory serves me right, Nexon is running on a modified Indica platform which has served its purpose and Tata Motors is interested in expanding/playing around with the Altroz and Harrier platforms now.

I think the next ICE vehicle, post HBX, that Tata wanted to launch is the Altroz based sedan. If they will ever do that, or if they even should, is a different question. The Hornbill has never materialised in any form, not even as a concept car. Given how long they take from showcasing a concept to launch, I think we are easily 3 years away from a 4.3 metre vehicle.

Re: Tata Blackbird: Creta-rivaling SUV being developed

Don't know about the Chery platform, but the closest to reality would be the Tata Sierra.

Based on ALFA platform, the concept was 4.3 metres, which is exactly the size they want to be in. Bang in the middle of Nexon and Harrier.

They have shown us a concept already. They got a superb response in the auto expo. I was hoping to see the next iteration in the upcoming Auto Expo.

If they do give it the green light, launch it with ICE first, then electric. Or even the opposite, there are going to be takers.

It has the brand pull and the looks to be a desirable option in the segment.

Whether it will have sliding doors or conventional, that remains to be seen.

I forgot about this concept being based on the ALFA platform. I would absolutely love a Sierra to fill that gap - I sort of already want to buy it. My understanding was Pratap Bose was pushing for the Sierra and Tata was watching public reactions.

Yes, they should absolutely launch ICE version.

Re: Tata Blackbird: Creta-rivaling SUV being developed

Didn't Tata once say that the Alfa platform can not accomodate a 4.2/4.3m SUV?
Tata is not going to use Chery platforms and will not have any kind of deal with them.
I think with the Sierra they have 2 options either make a 4.3m SUV or make a Thar rival.

The maximum ALFA can go is 4.3.

Watch this Pratap Bose interview.

Off topic: Wasn't there another car with Tata Sierra like rear windows? Probably an American car. Or am I just imagining things?

Doesn't have the wraparound rear window but I think this is the car that was in my mind.

Sierra could be the perfect rival to the Thar. No other car has the potential. Give it the fiat kryotec(even in a lower state of tune), throw in an optional 4wd/awd. We will have a car that can out sell the Thar.

The blackbird, on the other hand, can be a FWD soft-road creta rivalling SUV, with the nexon 1.5D in a higher state of tune.

By the time Tata does this, they would surpass Hyundai on monthly sales.

Re: Tata Blackbird: Creta-rivaling SUV being developed

Booked a Kushaq yesterday. Had Tata been in the 4.3 metres space with the Sierra 5 door, it would have been my default choice.

The Kushaq will be the first non Tata car in our family after a long long period of time.

Re: Tata Blackbird: Creta-rivaling SUV being developed

A slightly different question: will we never see a body on ladder frame 4x4 from Tata again?

You are right. It was the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer in S-10 trim
