Wow! Starting 11.49 Lacs? If it is true then Hector is going to kill it. Chinese DNA unleashed.

But, remember the DCT will not come with the Hybrid motor? This picture says otherwise.

Introductory prices is exciting. They'll have a lot of customers. Makes sense to go for this over any other competition, very similar to the XUV 500 situation some years back.

Excellent pricing. MG has set the cat loose amongst the pigeons. Harrier will likely face the brunt of this onsalught but I would go one step ahead and say that Creta is going to have a serious rethink too. Other than the customers focussed on size, it simply loses out to the Hector specially when with these prices.

Creta is going to get seriously affected as well, imo. The creta was always overpriced for what it offered, they only managed to get away with it because of the lack of proper competition, now with the price reveal of the hector, Hyundai is going to have lots of sleepless nights.

I guess that would mean a 6 month service interval. One inspection after one month and four biannual services would make up the 5 free services.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I can already foresee thousands of Hectors for sale around end of CY 2022 because of the buyback offer at 3-years at 60%! Would be interesting to see if MG Makes money on this car or not - with such amount of features, good pricing and the buy-back scheme. Guess time shall tell us in a few years.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I knew it will be competitively priced. Reasons:

- If there is one thing the Chinese do well, it's controlling costs + pricing their products well .

- Not only is MG a new brand in India, it is also largely unknown. To get Indians to part with 15 - 20 lakhs with a stranger, you'd have to offer a really strong value proposition.

- The Hector is the main thing MG India has going for it right now. If the Hector sinks, MG India sinks (at least temporarily).

- The first product is what defines the company. I'm sure MG wants to stand for "VFM" and not "overpriced flop".

- The Indian market itself is going through severely challenging times right now. One would have to be smoking some serious stuff to price cars at a premium today (e.g. Compass Trailhawk pricing - FCA / Jeep is seriously out of tune with the current market conditions).

- The pricing is damn close to the Harrier. Considering how ill-prepared Tata was at the time of launch (trouble-laden cars, among other things), it's going to affect the Harrier. See this post from a BHPian - related link.

If anyone is considering the Hector, I suggest taking a long test-drive first (and waiting for our Official Review). Based on what I've heard, the driving experience & engineering finesse vary between average -> above average in most areas, and good in a handful. Of course, the car has more than enough bling & gizmos for mass market tastes.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I think the pricing is bang-on. Harrier should be worried a lot. MG is giving lot many things for a marginal 20-30k over Harrier.

MG has too many things going for it: Good price, 5-years warranty, subscription scheme, buy back scheme, AMC packages etc. They have come full guns blazing.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Superb Pricing!! Priced on par with Harrier, but offering more features, a more powerful engine and the awesome panoramic sunroof. Harrier will surely face the heat if it doesn't sort its initial issues and niggles and launch other variants (Sunroof, automatic, 170bhp engine, 7-seater) in time.

Also, this will give a head-ache to Kia. They cannot afford to launch the Seltos with a premium price tag.
