Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I went to the MG dealership in my city and took the test drive of the vehicle. Apart from the cheap feeling touch screen and under powered engine, everything else ticked the boxes. What I am skeptical though is the reliability down the years as already the showroom people were diagnosing 3 cars (brand new yet to be delivered) with laptop.

Yes, I got a chance to book mine.
4 months works perfect for me since my existing car has to stay with me for next 3 months.
But I insisted for a BS6 one.

Under powered engine? You test drove the petrol I guess. The Diesel is adequately powered.

That's interesting. I'd love to know what they were doing. I'm going to take one of their MG shield packages. So I'll be secured for atleast 5 years.

If MG give the option of extending that warranty to 7, I'll be one of the first people to go for it.

@All

All those who've bought the top end variants. How's the sunroof mechanism holding up?

My SA told me that the prices have been hiked by 60k. Plus engines are still BS4 till March. New bookings will get cleared only by Feb

No news of any price hike. Maybe that's for BS6 models?

That's what my SA hinted. For petrol BS6 the increment might be in the range of 50-60K, while for diesel BS6 somewhere around 1.5L. Again ballpark numbers and not final or confirmed.
They also mentioned BS6 production might start from Jan, tentative. By Nov end there will be more clarity.

For the China origin debate my 2 cents. I work in China and anyone who can afford a non Chinese car buys one. Maybe its status or lack of trust.

So the Seltos Diesel will be a cool 2.5 to 3 lakhs cheaper than the Hector's !! Certainly looks very very VFM package now. Very curious to understand how Kia managed to price a BS6 Engine so well, hats off to them !

Thats not a surprise. Seltos has a lower capacity 1.5 litre engine with 115 PS. Hector has the 2 litre one with close to 170 bhp. Bigger diesel engines need adblue tank and related stuff. I find Hector and Seltos to be very different in dimensions. I am sure it is considerably lighter compared to Hector.

That doesn't look too good. But I haven't seen anyone on hector fan club and hector owners club on Facebook reporting such an issue. Maybe just a one off. Or another Hector bashing planted video.

"Hello MG, Open Umbrella". LOL. This has been doing the rounds in Whatsapp groups. If this is true, then it is certainly worrying. A Sunroof does have its appeal, but a defective one can ruin your interior fabrics and short circuit the famed electricals.

Apple car play was recently made available with an offline update - iSmart Ver 5.05. One had to visit the dealership for the same. I'm sure what you saw was a software update being installed.

So true. While a faulty seal could be the reason for a leak, the most common cause of a leaky*sunroof*is a clog in the drainage system that carries water away. But neither should happen in a brand new vehicle.

I'm a bit spooked about the same as I've booked the sharp diesel as well and I found the sunroof to have the maximum appeal as well as the most vulnerable as far as part failure is concerned.

Although, I'm on the two biggest hector forums on Facebook and none of them have any other similar complaints yet.

I'm still going to send a mail to MG specifying my order details and pushing them to ensure greater care about these specific issues.
