re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I recently had a discussion with someone from Kajaria tiles. They are supplying tiles to all upcoming MG showrooms across India. The person told me that MG India is currently constructing 20-25 showrooms across India and they are looking at timeline of August/September 2019 on starting their business operations.

For the tech offered I might even consider the hybrid petrol. Really interesting to see Tesla, Merc & BMW style features in a not so expensive car. If the power trains and driving dynamics are good then this is no-brainer. All of this is assuming it will come in the price range of 15-20L, as per the rumors.
Now the wait begins.

The more technology and "connectivity" you add to cars, the more they get exposed to hackers and trouble makers. Thieves have found ways to open and run away with cars having keyless entry and go (details can be found on other threads).

How long before someone hacks into a car's internals and does something dangerous? Also, news about customer tracking data going to Chinese servers may soon hit the headlines.

Just sayin.

I heard the 2.8 Crysta manages 0 to 100 in 10.2 seconds, haven't tried it personally. If it wasn't for the ground clearance I would have bought the Tucson, 0 to 100 under 9 seconds. But after looking at a few accident repairs at the Hyundai showroom it was clear that it's not for me. Crysta again has low ground clearance in ratio to the wheelbase. Arrgghhhh.

Hate the large touchscreen. Making all controls touch based is a recipe for disaster IMO, especially in our chaotic traffic. You have to take your eyes off the road and it is similar to using your cell while driving. Also, I don't like the aesthetics without any knobs and buttons!

Hope they are keeping a watch on this forum/thread. It has been pointed few times already: It appears like the car is wearing her younger sibling's shoes by mistake! They really need to address it before the launch.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I was going through videos of the Hector on YouTube and also Autocar's FB posts on the car. The comment section is filled with hate comments for this car for its Chinese connection. People have commented about SAIC and Baojun. Nowadays most of the general car buying public turns to YouTube and Facebook for getting to know about a car, and they would definitely become aware of the Chinese connection no matter how much MG tries to show itself as British in its ads. I wonder if this would have any kind of negative effect with the perception of this car when it goes on sale.

And most of these are people with too much time on their hands. Majority of them would not even be in the market for a SUV. I always wonder who has time to really vent their frustrations online...where there is absolutely nothing which is going to come out of it!

Well, it is like swearing never to buy a Chinese product and posting it on FB using Xiomi or Vivo (or some phone which likely to has some Chinese connection at least) Given a chance I would like to buy only Indian products but they should at least come close to the global standards.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

In line with the launch of the Hector in June 2019, MG Motor has recently promised to equip the Hector with a load of premium features, some of which would be first-in-segment. MG Motor also stated that the Hector would be available in a mild hybrid system apart from its petrol engine. The Hector, hence managed itself to be the first SUV in the country to feature hybrid technology.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

After waiting for the Harrier hoo haa to die down and bitterly disappointed by what is on offer, the Hector is something interesting. Looks like i may be able to buy a car this year after all!

My personal let downs for the Harrier are (in no particular order):
- Useless driver arm rest
- No red color
- No sunroof
- No automatic
- Inconsistent reviews
- My personal experience with the sub par launch vehicles in Jan

Honestly, it feels like an opportunity for Tata squandered away. I am sure it will sell, but probably I am more value conscious than the actual buyers!
Disappointed since i was looking forward for my first Tata purchase.

Tata really missed an opportunity to capture the market, but I am hopeful they will correct their mistakes soon.
On the Hector- Wouldn't such a big, heavy car having a small'ish turbo petrol with an AT be a recipe for disaster when it comes to fuel consumption? Whatever, I could glean from the internet, the Compass petrol barely delivers around 7 kmpl in city conditions. I fear the same or less for the Hector.

This will be the case with any petrol powered mid-sized SUV. I never heard of any SUV giving a healthy 14 to 15 kmpl in the city.
My Ecosport diesel barely gives me 15 kmpl in the city with the AC on. But recently my Verna diesel churned out a staggering 22 kmpl in the highway
So not to expect much in any petrol powered mid sized car.
