Launching the Harrier (5 Seater version) without an Automatic Variant at such a price point is a very disheartening situation.

And then by the time the 7 seater version comes in we would have the Skoda Karoq in place too.

Would be an interesting piece to watch.

If the 7 seater is in fact substantially longer, it would even look bit out of proportion with the current height. It is very clear that they are going to increase the height, at least towards the rear half. In that case they should definitely position it as a new car (of course with some tweaking to the front also)

From the picture below you can see it is substantially taller with a squarer windshield and the roof rails area marked which shows the stepped raise on the roof. Also marked is the projector outline on the headlamp and the substantially bigger protruding tail lamp. I have used the same wheelbase as illustrated by the slanting lines. The third slanting line marks the overhang. The H5 and H7 picture top and bottom were taken when they were at the same poition before the H7 moves back in the video.

The H7X will be launched by end 2019 according to an article in the latest Autocar India January 2019 issue. It will be 62mm longer and heavier by 50kg vs the Harrier. Also confirmed is the automatic gearbox from Hyundai with a 180bhp output.
Looks like this will make a debut at the Auto Expo 2020.

If the 7 seater is launched it shall not happen before 2020.

2019 launch of Harrier and a 7 seater is not highly improbable, impossible.

There are reports of a Geneva motor show debut too which is in March. The launch time line too has been reported from mid year 2019 to early 2020 in various reports.

My view is that this is the SUV Tata needs right now as the Harrier is struggling for placement in the current lineup(a 5 seater SUV flagship in a lineup having extremely capable 7 seater like the Strme and Hexa) and has a tough sell against the Creta.

The H7X would only have had an ageing XUV to contend with and could also be a good alternative to the super expensive league from Innova to Fortuner.

All, speaking of a bigger diesel engine from Maruti, read this article in Live Mint where it says Maruti Suzuki to steer away from diesel engines.

Just ran a quick comparison to see and to my eyes this is indeed the 7 seater which looks bulkier, taller and has an expanded rear. It also has the black alloys that every 7 seater media report features.

Sounds about right. It doesn't have that floating roof effect and appears taller than Harrier. However, since it's almost like a new car altogether, Tata would want to test it thoroughly as well (like they did with Harrier) and with that in mind, I don't see any probability of a 2019-launch.

This is where it gets interesting. Look at this report from Apr 2018 with the same black alloys and a similar profile.

I think with the camo its difficult if not impossible to distinguish the Harrier/H7X unless you put them side by side like this guy did.

So I now think that the H7X has been testing side by side if not before the Harrier. To me the additional timeline would primarily be to test the automatic and possibly the 4WD which earlier reports indicated will launch with the H7X

Interesting indeed! That explains a lot. Although we might not have had that many camouflaged appearances of H7X, Tata apparently, has been discreetly putting it through the grind. If they did take note of the most-echoed gripe of customers/enthusiasts, they'll do good to boost the package value with 4WD/AWD and AT.

Autocar says Tata has confirmed a 2019 launch for the 7 seater Harrier. Will have the higher state of tune on the 2L Kryotec and an Automatic Transmission.

Hope they change the location of headlights also. The 7 seater should be upright without all the rounded edges. Weirdness magnified doesnt look cool.

Doesnt seem to have the presence that Altura has though.
