If only Skoda India had a better sorted service, then no Japs or Koreans would sell. The best D segment sedan is the Octy 1.8TSi with the DSG.

It's not just service it's about reliability too. Hard to beat the Japanese at that. Honda's are reliable but their service is just about average. Skoda well average reliability average service that's why probably they have average sales figures.

The current Civic's main selling point (if the sales momentum continues) would be it's unique styling. It feels like a Corolla in a snazzy outfit. I hope that the impending BS-6 norms force Honda to bring it's 1.5 litre turbo petrol to the Indian market.

As per this article, the current 1.8L engine is already BS6 compliant.
Come 2020, Honda may simply get it re certified to stamp the BS6 sticker.

There's also a 1.8-litre petrol engine on offer which is good enough for 138 bhp. This engine develops a peak torque of 174Nm and will be available only with a CVT. The company says that the petrol engine comes with improved fuel efficiency and with the combination of CVT and reduced load resistance. According to Honda, the Civic petrol returns a fuel efficiency figure of 16.5 kmpl. In fact the big news here is that the petrol engine used by Honda in the Civic is already BS6 compliant and can be easily run on BS4 fuel.

Started spotting Civics in and around town. I liked it in pictures, but in flesh looks hideous (looks are subjective) and overdone. Somehow, I feel it would not be out of place in a Godzilla movie!

^^I doubt the veracity of the quoted article.
In the US, the Civic is currently available with either a 1.5L turbo petrol motor or the antiquated 2.0 NA petrol that's available on lower trims.
In the UK, the Civic hatch is available with either a 1.0L or a 1.5L turbo petrol.
Since BS6 is on similar lines to Euro6, I doubt whether the R18 would comply to it.

Find that hard to believe. When I moved to the US in 1998 to live there for several years, the Civic then (4 generations ago) was powered by roughly the same 1.8 litre engine, it used to make 140hp then. The engine is basically over 20 years old! VW already had the first iteration of the 1.8 Turbopetrol on sale thenand it used to power the passat of 3 generations ago. It used to make 150 HP even then. Since then, VW has done at least two major re-engineering cycles of the engine and also by now retired it.

Japanese carmakers steadfastly refused to take innovate to turbochargers in their mainstream cars and only recently are being forced to do so by mileage and emission requirements. They will still pass off their antiquated NA engines where they can get away with it, like they are doing on the current Indian Civic.

So Honda Civic settles at 350+ unit sales/month in 2 consecutive months. Is now the segment leader.

Quick question. Does the new Civic have the same engine as the old gen Civic? My parents have the 2009 Civic and to me the engine specifications look same.

Re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

A little late to the review game, but test drove the Civic yesterday. Will compare it with our 2017 Corolla Altis CVT.

Build quality is definitely up a notch. Heavy doors that close with a firm thud. A welcome change from the Corolla.
Visibility, and space in the front was pretty decent as well and I felt at home instantly.
I did have an apprehension about the rear seat - headroom, seating: but was pleasantly surprised to fit my 6'2" frame behind a 6' driver with just about enough headroom to spare!
Yes, the Corolla is a little easier to get in and out of + has more legroom due to the seating position, but I was pretty impressed with the Civic nonetheless.
The Corolla engine felt a little peppier, but the Civic sounded nicer. Was very impressed by the ride quality compared to the Corolla, but did not get a chance to push the car much.

Overall: I was pretty impressed with the car - more than I had anticipated.
Yes, the Corolla is still the king of the back seat, but as an all rounder, the Civic has the upper hand.

I have not spotted a single Civic in Mumbai so far. Isn't it amazing?

I have spotted a couple of them, one white and one red. Loved the white, the red looked sporty no doubt but I do not like flashy colors in general.
