The safety equipment available in this variant includes ABS, dual front airbags and panic brake indication.

This is almost the top end except for steel wheels instead of alloys, no 4wd option. Extremely vfm package.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio S9 variant launched at Rs. 13.99 lakh

The Scorpio continues to chug along in its monthly sales numbers despite any competition. So I wonder what is the background behind behind this variant launch ? Are they planning to drop the S10 variant because of too much overlap with XUV and part of a rationalizing move ?

They had an automatic variant from 2015-17 but pulled it for lack of demand.

Here are the changes listed in the brochure.

According to this, it doesn't get a reverse camera.

Easy and cheap to fit. A good AliExpress reverse camera is about $20. You need a connector to interface between the camera rca jack and the rear of the Scorpio HU. And then pay a Mahindra ASS some 700 rupees to enable it in the HU firmware.

This is one vehicle where you are paying all that money for the engine. Its very difficult to justify spending so much money on what appears to be an outdated package but that engine makes up for everything. I was sold on it even at 20L for the 4x4 variant.

I like their's being honest about the steel wheels.
In this highly competitive market, following someones lead in this matter would have been so easy!

What "outdated"? Just how many sub 20 lakh vehicles come with cornering lamps, follow me lights, DRLs, climate control aircon, rear AC vents? Yes the body shell and ladder on frame haven't changed much over two decades but suspension improvements make newer generation Scorpios a much smoother ride than the old ones.

The price difference between the S9 & S11 is almost 90 grand on the road

Outdated in terms of design. The basic body shell is almost 20 years old with rain gutters . Outdated also in terms of space packaging. For a car so big on the outside, I find the space inside to be too limited. And while the new Scorpio might be 'smoother', it still gets bumpy - with terrible side to side swaying on bad roads. The handling is as bad as it can get for a body-on-frame SUV.

The only things selling the Scorpio are its styling, image & brand name. But there are far superior options available at the same or similar price points. Heck, I consider the cheaper TUV300 Plus to be the better car (main negative = no 4x4).

Re: Mahindra Scorpio S9 variant launched at Rs. 13.99 lakh

It is at its best at a gentle cruise of 110 kmph or so - and yes it has cruise control.

The body roll is actually considerably minimized compared to earlier Scorpios and the 2018 one puts out 140 ps.

Worth another look really. Even if the space consideration makes it an oversized five seater rather than a true seven seater.

No Captain seats :( , shouldn't it be an option in each variant?

Would be curious if someone can guide us to the ownership report of the S11 4wd.

They are the pioneer in terms of equipment, fully loaded as always. The interior and exterior is outdated. There are many bits and pieces that does not belong to a 20L car. The drive train is top class and it reflects in the price, no doubts here.

The 2013-14 Refresh of mighty muscular Scorpio has the best ride of them all. The new generation and 140 BHP version is a sharper handler but it has come at the cost of ride comfort.

Yes there are better options available. Normal TUV also rides and handles better, it just don't have as much appeal as the Scorpio.
I consider only Safari as the true alternative to Scorpio, I wanted one, but the drive experience though plush and spacious wasn't that exciting, the engine did not have the sense of urgency. I am yet to drive a vehicle that has a better engine.

The 7 seater jump seat version has a spacious and comfortable second row, the 8 seater is hopeless. The worse part of this is that the vehicle continues to sell with all it's quirks, reducing the possibility of them changing anything at all.

I was just talking to a guy who had a pristine S4+ 4wd in black. Super clean, no bull bars, weird slogans on the windshield etc.

He is a caterer and mostly based out of Ooty where he supplies various schools and colleges. He says he's taken it offroad and even across streams etc multiple times.

According to him the ride quality and 4wd offroad capabilities with a load of food containers etc in the boot are much better than in a Pajero or a Fortuner.

And that he prefers the S4+ to the S11 4wd because far less electronics means it is much easier and cheaper to recover from the engine getting a bath from fording streams or waterlogged roads.
