Mercedes-Benz has launched the C-Class facelift in India. The new C-Class comes with BS-VI compliant diesel engines and is available in three variants - C 220 d Progressive, C 220 d Prime and C 300 d AMG Line. Prices start at Rs. 40 lakh (ex-showroom).



The new C-Class gets minor changes on the exterior. These include new front and rear bumpers, LED headlamps and LED tail lamp clusters. The C 300d gets AMG Line exterior package with 18-inch alloy wheels. A new exterior colour called Mojave Silver is available as an option.



On the interior, the new model comes equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with smartphone integration and a redesigned 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel. The C 220d Progressive gets Brown open-pore walnut wood trim and ambient lighting with 64 colours to choose from. The C 300d AMG Line gets Saddle Brown and Black upholstery options with Anthracite open-pore oak wood trim and a flat-bottom steering wheel.



The C 220d Progressive and Prime are powered by a OM 654 BS-VI compliant 1,950cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 192 BHP @ 3,800 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,600-2,800 rpm. The C 300d AMG Line uses the same engine tuned to produce 241 BHP @ 4,200 rpm and 500 Nm of torque @ 1,600-2,400 rpm. All three variants are offered with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes claims that the C 220d can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h, while the C 300d will reach 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and tops out at 250 km/h.

C 220d Prime - Rs. 40 lakh

C 220d Progressive - Rs. 44.25 lakh

C 300d AMG Line - Rs. 48.50 lakh

Does the car have launch control?

Man, this will make for a heck of a pre-worshipped buy in 2 - 3 years. All you Jetta, Octavia, Elantra & Corolla owners = hold your upgrade until 2020 - 2021. And that includes you, Ajmat & Vid6639!

From the looks of it seems that Merc has finally decided to give us their Adaptive LED package with road sign recognizing cameras. Can TBHP reviewers get their hands on one test vehicle and confirm the same?

Just heard that C300d will be 59 lacs on road Mumbai . Just adding that it's a hike of 2 lacs over c250d on road Mumbai.

That 5.8secs to 100 on C330d sounds so sweeettt!

I don't expect the AMG line to have any better suspension so the handling could be like a standard C, which isn't a deal breaker in my mind.

The price is quite attractive too!
Hopefully, when BMW gets in the new 3er they will get a high performance variant as well. That should hot up the segment. Also, with these launches, it would make little sense to go for a 530d or an E350d as you will probably have almost the same amount of power in a lighter package with the C300d and the 330d (if it's launched). The only distinguishing factor could be the standard feature list on the higher segment cars.

Exciting times ahead!

The current Mercs use the OM 651 engine launched about 10 years ago - the 220d had 170 Bhp and the 250d had 204 Bhp.

They did the ton in 8.5 seconds and 7.9 seconds indicating the new cars have almost a 1.5 - 2 second improvement.

The C's already handle a lot better than the 3's and with this kind of power it's going to leave whatever's left of them for dead.

Happy to see more interior colour options. This is one area Mercedes hasn't been doing a good a job in India (apart from the legendary memory seats)

Pity those lower variants. On launch, everyone ensures the top end variant gets all the attention, be it's features,performance or the looks. If at all the C220D could speak " I do all the hardwork, get those numbers/clients/profits and 300D is the one who enjoys the limelight and gets all the credit " lol:

Well said. As an owner of a Pete'd Jetta, there are few logical options out there that also incite "upgrade lust". The new C's have been catching my attention due to the design element, but have left me unconvinced on the incremental cost to performance/driving dynamics trade-off (Superb/Passat/5 and E-series are a tad too large for our needs).

Things just got interesting with this refresh. Since I prefer to wait for any initial Gremlins to settle down, the C should be in the consideration set in a year or two, if I can convince myself to let the Jetta go :)

Agreed on the lighter & smaller part which may make it more fun around corners too, but there is no replacement for displacement and there is no substitute for 6-cylinder diesels (or 8 cylinder petrols). They are simply magical in a way that a 4-pot just can't be.

Credit also to the gearbox. Am sure that is as responsible for the faster acceleration as the engine is.

Always good to see companies bringing in performance oriented models to spice things up . But can’t help but think they could have plonked that brand new 3.0 straight six diesel from the S class into the C. That would have been a real sleeper and a keeper. Something worth saving up for.

Good on Mercedes-Benz for bringing in a proper performance diesel model in their C-Class lineup. This should definitely evoke a reaction from BMW.

You're the first person I have ever heard saying that the C's handle better than the 3's. Not trying to start a debate here, but your comment made me wonder if it's true or not.

The current C 250d already has the same brilliant 9 speed gearbox. I would think it's the whopping extra 37 BHP in the 300d over the 250d that makes all the difference.

Assuming that owners will sell!


Small price to pay for that performance boost

The front bonnet may not be able to fit an inline 6!

Why no petrol? I guess Mercedes might not see much demand for this or they are waiting for the new A class to come in and the combined volumes will make petrol enginee assembly viable!

IMHO, it's an excellent price point considering BS VI engines supposed to be expensive than BS IV.



Agree with you Boss ! Whatever the figure says, a four pot can't match a 6 pot performance...no way.
