Mercedes-Benz has launched the CLA 200 and CLA 200 d Urban Sport variants priced at Rs. 35.99 lakh and Rs. 36.99 lakh (ex-showroom).



The Urban Sport variants are available in a new exterior colour called Cosmos Black and a "Carbon Style" rear spoiler. It comes with 2-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, "Sport" badge and "Sport" floor mats and illuminated door sills.

Mechanically, the Urban Sport variants are identical to the standard car. The CLA 200 gets a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 181 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm @ 1,200-4,000 rpm. Powering the CLA 200 d is a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine which produces 134 BHP @ 3,200-4,000 rpm and 300 Nm @ 1,400-3,000 rpm. Both engines come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Still a very good looking car, but this probably is a stock clearance exercise? Mercedes is doing a bit of Maruti Suzuki with its variants.

I think Mercedes has run out of CBUs to launch every other week, so here come the special editions .

On a serious note, yes, this is still a sexy looking car. But the next-generation CLA-Class is just a year away. I would recommend anyone considering this model to wait for the all-new gen. If you can't wait, spend a couple more lakhs and buy a C-Class at a heavy discount.

This is exactly what I wanted to do but I tell you this car just casts a spell on some people. In my case it was my sister that fell victim.

Two years ago she was given wide options from the Mini Cooper, Q3, X1, 3 series, C-class, etc but yet she fought with me to get her only the CLA even though I was not convinced and wanted the 3 or C.

This is a car that is bought by the heart not the head. It's not very often that cars like this come around. While to me the next gen appeals more, I bet to current fans of the CLA it won't appeal as much; It just doesn't have all the oomph as my sister says.

Are you referring to next gen CLA or A class Sedan?

It's not a bad car, just a coupe masquerading as a saloon.

Belatedly, it is getting the climate control system that was needed for the price. I felt short changed when I switched from the imported petrol car so equipped to the diesel indian spec during the test drive.
