This is a good move by TATA. Building upon the success of their little wonder. High ground clearance has become a top priority these days in cities like Bangalore where the road condition isn't conducive for low slung cars anymore. Every second bumper would be unscientifically designed or the opposite end would be damaged in a way that the 160-165 mm GC cars keep taking a hit often and let's not even start about the never ending pot-holes . Every third new car I see on road these days is a crossover/raised-hatch(basically high GC) for this reason I guess.

I don't see why the name would make any difference if the product makes sense. If names really mattered, 'CRETA' wouldn't have managed a third of what it is seeing.

Just hope they launch an AMT variant, as along with high GC that's another very important feature requirement in most of the cities now. Rest it has decent enough features already to make it a VFM city car. Hope this move helps tiago breach the much deserved 10k mark

The cross-hatch from Tata will take on the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X

A few days back we reported that Tata will launch a Tiago-based cross-hatch in the form of Tiago NRG in the country on September 12. Now, just a few days ahead of its launch, the cross-hatch version of Tiago has been spotted plying on the roads of Hyderabad.



The Tiago NRG is basically a Tiago with a body cladding and raised ground clearance. Mechanically, it is similar to the standard Tiago and is powered by the same 1.2-litre (85PS/114Nm) petrol and 1.05-litre (70PS/140Nm) diesel engines. To set itself apart from the standard Tiago, apart from the cladding, the NRG also gets new dual-tone 14-inch alloys and colour coded cabin.

Unlike the standard Tiago, the NRG is expected to available in a single variant only and it is expected to share its features list with the top-spec Tiago XZ. While the all the features are expected to remain same, instead of the 2-DIN Harman infotainment system, the Tiago NRG will get the 5-inch touchscreen infotainment by Harman from the Tigor.



The Tiago NRG is expected to be priced at a slight premium over the standard Tiago, which is priced from Rs Rs 3.35 lakh to 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The cross-hatch Tiago will go head on against the Maruti CelerioX (Rs 4.63 lakh to Rs 5.48 lakh) (ex-showroom Delhi), which is essentially a cross-hatch version of the Maruti Celerio.

Nice observation, but this may be a Photoshop error by someone making initial images for the final product. Let's see tomorrow what all is there in NRG in comparison to the Tiago.

Have the headlights gone slightly bigger than Tiago, I always felt the headlight size is tad smaller in both in Tiago and Tigor.

For a non-car guy, this and freestyle would look almost the same If they don't overprice this, this could help Tata retain the 3rd spot.

Anyhow, how much does this weigh over the hatch version? Car might need more eNeRGy to keep performance at acceptable level Especially the diesel.

They could have clubbed the NRG and JTP variants and launched one with the turbo petrol borrowed from the Nexon. Maybe in a slightly lesser state of tune. That would have made this product much more appealing, than just increasing the ground clearance and making a few cosmetic changes.
