Seems I was misled. It’s the standard 1.8TSI and 2.0TDI. Rest seems costmetic/gimmicky

IAB adds the following:

A 'Corrida Red' paint scheme will be offered exclusively
It may feature a sports chassis that lowers the ride height.

^ If this is true, then it was much ado about nothing !
This is highly disappointing. Was hoping a performance Superb would be a serious contender to consider to buy for the wife.

True, but with 150 cars a month in a segment which is typically conservative, the expense of going through the ARAI certification would not make sense.

So, same engine as in Octavia. Larger space. And additional treatments to call it Sports?

Good then. Looks like someone from the Maruti stable has joined VAG.

This was expected. Spotline!= vRS. Even in the UK, Sportline is available with all the engine options starting with the 1.4 TSI. Also, 4x4 280 isn't a Sportline specific engine. It is available with L&K as well. Same has been followed in India too (providing Sportline variant with the existing engines).

Since when did Skoda start bothering about making sense? And that's one aspect of why I love this brand. In this increasingly boring world of 90BHP D4D luxury sedans and 116BHP iDTec premium SUVs, Skoda was the only company that talked about power - they were the first to launch a turbopetrol sedan in India way back in 2004, followed up with the vRS when the entire country was talking "kitna deti hai". They were the first to launch the dual clutch gearbox, then they launched the first direct injection turbopetrol sedan with 160BHP at 14L on-road way back in 2009 without thinking about how many Anands out there would actually buy it. And then the latest full blown vRS was a pleasant surprise. That's why we had hope.

Still my love for Skoda will remain intact - my 160BHP TSI Laura is running flawless for almost 9 years now and every drive has been a joyride. If this had been the 280BHP version, it would have been a worthy upgrade for my Laura but the good part is, now Laura will remain with me for longer

Slightly tangential but maybe the 280 ps is ideal as a CBU under the new liberalisation of import norms?

The car is already launched and pricing is available in website. Looks like a very silent launch. Same old engines!!

Sportline 1.8 TSI AT : ₹ 28,99,000

Sportline 2.0 TDI AT : ₹ 31,49,000

Brochure is also available in website.

Only Automatics With the same engines, the least they could have done was at least launch the 1.8 petrol sport line manual as well. And sky high skoda prices as usual. Very disappointing 😩

This is great way to dispose off the now out of production 1.8tsi engine. I'm not sure why anyone would buy this, unless they desperately want their driven ride to look "sporty", and there's a badge that says so!

Since the costs associated with diesel gate, the low sales and high operating costs within India and lastly, market research.

In 2001, when they entered, they had no clue of the market and tried everything

Automatic - did not work - ahead of its time
Estates - flopped
vRS - Sucess in limited volumes and a great brand builder
Laura - worked but complexity and incompetent dealers got shown up
Superb 1 - as above + brand was not ready for a stretch
Superb 2 - game changer - well priced and good volumes
Fabia - never got the numbers despite sharing a factory with VW later on. It was priced too high.

After diesel gate, Skoda have been focusing on a narrow range. All focus is on the new small SUV. They will bring the Karoq but I think they need to see the equation with MG / Harrier before deciding/

Many old school enthusiasts like me. I would any day prefer a good six speed manual than a seven speed automatic
Moreover most of the automatics that are sold in India except the premium ones are complete thrash
E.g. My wife has a manual jazz and one of my friend has an automatic City. When ever I drive the automatic city it feels more lethargic than my wife's jazz due to the outdated cvt
And though dsg is miles ahead of this I would never even touch a skoda automatic due it's reliability and extremely high cost.
