Volkswagen Compact SUV takes shape in Brazil for S American and Indian markets.

Will use a simplified platform, the Skoda Development MQB-A00.

Will take on the lucrative and crowded segment in 2023. T-Sport or T-Go or something that will start with "T "

Will be of 3,999 m of maximum length for India, while the Brazilian model will be slightly larger.

This will sit below the Kushaq/Taigun? I really wonder how they will price it below Kushaq given that the brand struggles with making entry level cars.

India being considered for next investment cycle, to go after compact cars in the volume segment. To bring EV's next year as part of the marketing plans.

Thomas Schäfer, Board Chairman, Skoda Auto:

The Skoda brand is finally on the "right track" in India

Quote:
We are finally on the right track in India. We've been continuously looking at expanding the business and the portfolio of cars to cater to the domestic market. If you want to grow to to significant numbers, you need to be in that game ( compact Cars)
Skoda will indeed play the volume game in the domestic market. He hinted at more new products on the anvil, including EVs and using India as a base for exports

On EV 's:

Enyaq:

Skoda, on its part, will also play in this game in the future. Of course.

Quote:
"At the moment, the team in India is looking at the options. They'll bring in next year probably a few Enyaqs (Skoda's EV product) to try it on the ground. The car has been super successful in Europe; we believe this can also work in India,

Re: Skoda in control of VW's product development for India; car based on MQB-A0-IN platform coming

Skoda plans to make electric cars in India, but for now it will go the import route. Seeks import duty reduction now.

EV debut will be made even earlier through the imported route with the launch of the green SUV Enyaq.

Localization will be the key to EV's in the long run, but in the current scenario seeks for reduction of import duties for EV's to test market the

Quote:
Electric cars can’t be penalised. If you believe that this is the future, then till the time until they are localised in India, you cannot penalise them (with higher import duty). Otherwise, you will stop the development and you stop the movement in the market and you lose connection with the rest of the world.

Re: Skoda in control of VW's product development for India; car based on MQB-A0-IN platform coming

Skoda / VW and EVs.

There are a range of mass market players who are already doing taking the plunge and establishing market dynamics for “mass market” EVs”. From Tata to Hyundai to MG and perhaps very soon Mahindra as well. What is it exactly that Skoda is waiting for and why should it lean on import duty concessions. The bold ought to be rewarded. There should be no reason why Skoda should not be taking similar steps to explore / establish its own footprint in this space. It only needs confidence in its own products and successful product placement strategy.

VAG has been an odd player here in India. It either flogs the same product for years and years without meaningful life cycle updates (think the entire Polo / Rapid / Vento range) or alternately randomly gets stop gap products for one or two quarters or a significantly limited time - think Karoq / T Roc, even Allspace / Tiguan and Kodiaq trio which have long spells of alternating absence. Neither is ideal.

The best thing about VAG really really mostly comes down to the Octavia and Superb twins, which have been excellent products in India with the right and timely lifecycle updates being offered here. In itself contra intuitive (in a good way) given that the market has so heavily embraced SUVs over sedans in most of the C+ / D segment in particular that they’re able to create such a success story out of these two.

Coming to their CBU proposal on EVs, even if I could afford the CBU end price, I would be extremely reluctant to plonk meaningful money over a CBU vehicle from VAG (a vehicle is usually the second largest individual expense in most households after real estate, keeping perhaps weddings aside) not knowing whether they’ll sell 50 units of the model or 5000 or 25000 and whether they’ll keep sales alive over 3 - 6 months or 3 - 6 years. Simply too big a financial punt.

If you’ve got an actual 2.0 India strategy then identify the right product, at the right price and CKD it here from the word go. Any monkey with a fledgling presence can bring a CBU product here. Management competence is tested and proven by the success of well thought through and implemented strategy that is connected with the domestic market.

‘India 2.5’ will hinge on further development of models spun off of the VW Group’s MQB A0 platform, which Skoda has taken complete charge of.

Volkswagen prepares new platform for Brazil, India and Russia:

Quote:
While Skoda continues with the development of the MQB-A0 Global. The first vehicle will be launched after 2025
Skoda in control of VW's product development for India; car based on MQB-A0-IN platform coming-v.jpg

Architecture will be an evolution of the MQB-A0. It will be used from small cars to 7-seater models .

This will happen mainly in emerging markets such as Latin America, India and Russia, so the manufacturer has put Skoda to develop a new platform for the next vehicles, focused on low cost and that is very flexible, to accommodate cars of various sizes.

Quote:
unlike the previous MQB-A0, this new one will not be created in Europe and then distributed globally, but done already thinking about emerging markets. Volkswagen's Czech division believes that the sale of combustion cars in these countries will grow 58% over the next 10 years, reaching 7.5 million units, and then to 8.5 million by 2036.
Quote:
it makes no sense for Volkswagen to abandon the combustion cars quickly and the future MQB-A0 Global Platform will play an important role in this. Dytrych says the architecture can be used in cars ranging from 4 meters long to 4.7 m. "This platform needs to be as flexible as possible
Quote:
The most important point is that, as these cars will not be sold in Europe or China, there will be no need to worry about meeting local demands for pollutant emissions, allowing Skoda to have freedom in development. This does not mean that we will see fully combustion cars, also reveals that the MQB-A0 Global is being created with the possibility of receiving hybrid engines – but unable to be used for fully electric cars. This electrification will happen according to the demands of each site.
Quote:
The executive also states that it will seek common elements so that the platform is used by all countries equally and meeting all demands. "For example, Russia takes cybersecurity and crash testing more seriously than South America, while Indian customers demand more integration with smartphones than Russians,"

-Gol SUV will use the new generation MQB base simplified by Skoda (MQB A0 ?)

- The base will be global and aimed at low-cost markets.

- Volkswagen Gol SUV will basically be an adventurous version of the Skoda Fabia. The two will share basic structure, glass and inside doors.

- Gol SUV should be something close to 4.10 m long of the Skoda Fabia. Height of 1.46 m and width and 1.78 m Fabia

- Can even generate a Fabia Cross for markets in which Skoda operates – especially India, which has had great brand growth.

- To stay below The T-Cross and Nivus in size and price.

- The range of engines will consist only of the 1.0 TSI, as has been practiced by the German brand. It is possible that the Gol SUV has cheaper versions with the hit of 105 hp and 20.4 kgfm of torque that was used in the VW UP -TSI

- VW can use only the 1.0 TSI of 128 hp and 20.4 kgfm that Polo, Virtus, Nivus and T-Cross use. To lower the average price, the cheapest Gol SUV will have manual transmission, in addition to the automatic option of six gears, which is already traditional among the brand's turbo models.

ŠKODA AUTO delivered 878,200 vehicles worldwide in 2021 despite the pandemic and semiconductor shortage.

Quote:
Thanks to the new KUSHAQ, ŠKODA AUTO is also achieving significant growth in India. The company expects the supply situation for semiconductors to gradually improve in the second half of 2022. The Czech car manufacturer is anticipating positive impetus from new products, in particular the ENYAQ COUPÉ iV and the refreshed KAROQ.

In India, ŠKODA AUTO achieved significant growth in 2021 following the launch of the KUSHAQ, which was developed specifically for this market, recording a total of 22,800 vehicles deliveries in the region (January to December 2020: 10,900 vehicles; +108.9%). In December 2021, deliveries stood at 3,500 vehicles (December 2020: 1,400 vehicles; +156.2%).

The manufacturer can also report encouraging growth in the rest of the world: from January to December 2021, ŠKODA AUTO increased its vehicle deliveries by 20.6% to 85,000 units (January to December 2020: 70,500 vehicles).

So if Skoda hits 70,000 sales per year in India - according to their plans - we would be definitely in their top-5 markets. That would really impressive, especially for a European brand. This would definitely not be the case for Volkswagen, since VW the brand itself has some giant markets. I doubt if 70k would be enough to even break into top-15 markets of VW.

That said Skoda should definitely look to bringing the Enyaq EV to India.

Could the model under development or modifying to adapt to the MQB A0-IN be the Fabia based product? If so, that should really help them improve their sales. Indian market has definitely matured and Fabia will complete their product line-up in a way. Only time will answer.
