i20 CVT with 6 airbags is an odd combination in my view. 6 airbags are desirable for a highway vehicle but i20 CVT is definitely more suited for the city commute (of course, not that it cannot handle occasional highway duty, but the performance will be nothing to write home about)

In one of your earlier posts in a different thread, you had stated that you booked an Asta variant before Hyundai introduced the Asta O CVT and, if given a choice you would have booked the O variant with 6 airbags and adjustable rear head rests. Any reason you are now stating that i20 with 6 airbags is an odd combination?

@ram78, that was a good catch I think it is still a good idea to go for a variant which offers the highest safety level. But my only complaint is that i20 should have had little more power for the highway duty. In my case I will be mostly using it in the city and hence the power and the safety levels of the Asta are adequate

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 CVT launched at Rs. 7.04 lakh

Had visited the Hyundai showroom today. If it is of any help for those in Hyderabad, following are the OTR for the CVT variants:

Sportz +CVT = 979445. This includes the 4th year extended warranty for INR 7540 and insurance of 38280. Insurance if taken outside comes out much cheaper. Based on discussions, felt that we can get a discount of 15-20000.

The Asta(O) CVT variant costs 1082591 OTR with the above components.

Surely, you would know better!

I had shortlisted Yaris CVT base version (11.8 lakhs post discount) though family did not like it and post visiting the Hyundai showroom, wife and kids liked the i20. Both have 6 airbags and the i20 seems to be the more compact of the two.

Am actually shocked to know the FE but think will have to live with it as apparently the Hyundai's too are considered to be long lasting and that may compensate for the FE headache. I plan to keep the car till it dies out. Also liked that the service interval is of 1 year /10000 kms. unlike some cars which need to make a visit to the service centre every 6 months

Looks like will need more of yours and the i20 CVT owner club's advice going forward. Not yet finalised on the car though.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 CVT launched at Rs. 7.04 lakh

Wow 6kmpl is worse than even the much heavier EcoSport with a TC box. What's the point of introduction of CVT if such are the figures. I guess grand i10 automatic with the torque converter returns slightly better mileage. Agreed it's lighter but then the gearbox as well is the least efficient one on the grand i10.

What was the mileage of the earlier 1.4L i20 automatic (4 speed TC box)? Was it as bad? This 1.2L engine was always notorious for returning sad FE even on the 1st gen i10. Sad to see not much has changed even after almost a decade

FE at 7.4 km now after first checkup.. Very strangely though im observing some minor cracks on one of the tail lamps despite any sign of a hit or damage in surrounding areas. Parking my car outside not sure what to call it.

Yaris has 7 airbags. Also it belongs to the next class, with half meter more length and 1.5L petrol engine (efficient than i20's one?). There is no direct comparison.

Hyundai's 1.2L gave single digit mileage on i10 AT as per many posts here on team bhp. It seems even on i20 it is no different, in fact even worse. I wonder which engine would they plonk in the upcoming Styx. Hope the new 1.0L turbo petrol expected to make entry is not as thirsty as this 1.2L.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 CVT launched at Rs. 7.04 lakh

As a firm believer in the need for automatics in India, I enjoy reading threads on TBHP related to them. I own a Honda Jazz CVT and have done over 23,600 kms on it. Yes, the feature list on that isnt great but the reason we went in for it was because of the space and peace of mind associated with the big H. Coming to mileage, I usually get between 11 - 12 kmpl in Cochin's traffic. Highway drives get me 15 - 17 kmpl depending on the driving conditions. In comparison, I find the 7 kmpl mileage in real world usage from the feature packed i20 to be shockingly low.

Hyundai can plonk all the features in the world (including 6 airbags) into the i20 CVT but in India cars that have poor mileage, irrespective of the brand, are usually the ones that people dont touch with a barge pole. With a better engine under the hood, Hyundai could turn around the i20 CVT and garner better sales figures.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 CVT launched at Rs. 7.04 lakh

Hyundai's 1.2 engine was never known for its efficiency. Couple that to an auto tanny, and you know what will happen. Still i would expect around 8kmpl from this combo, 6 kmpl is ridiculously low!

As someone rightly said, Grand i10 auto will probably deliver better FE.

The website has now been updated and shows the Asta(O) available in CVT option. Also shows the new shuffled trims like Era, Magna+, Sportz+.

Wow! That's rather low, that's my old Elantra's mileage with a 1.8L manual petrol motor. My Honda City CVT delivers better FE than my son's Grand i10 AT.
That said both are great cars to punt around in traffic. Honda City CVT is good to drive smoothly by just caressing the gas pedal and the i10 AT feels good to be driven hard.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 CVT launched at Rs. 7.04 lakh

I recently purchased(10th April) the i20 asta CVT. I was worried on seeing all these mileage numbers on the forum. However, took the plunge as it was best suited for my requirements (cvt, safety features, serviceability)

The following are the numbers that I am seeing after 3000km of driving:
Highway - 15kmpl
Normal city traffic - 10kmpl
Peak city traffic (10kmph avg. speed) - 5kmpl

Hope they increase further after the first service

I found the earlier quoted 7 kmpl figures to be a real shocker, this 5 kmpl in peak city traffic nearly made me collapse! In the worst of Bangalore's traffic (heading into Whitefield while the metro work was in full swing, thats how bad) I easily used to get 9 - 10 kmpl with the D mode in the Honda Jazz CVT. Sometimes, it used to get into the 10.5 - 11 kmpl range for the same awful traffic. Hope your i20 numbers improve after the first service!

I too hope that it increases after the service. What I felt so far was that the car was taking too much effort to start off from standstill. I will have to check if it is choosing the wrong gear at low speeds.
