With a bigger off take and presence they can price their cars even more sensibly and that would be a death knell for the 'fringe' competition. But higher up the ladder products are lacking. Grand Vitara neither looks good nor desirable: more like a blown up V. Brezza! What MSIL can do is bring their Japanese Kei cars current editions and not some hand me down discontinued products like we are seeing of their so called "new" Wagon R.

Maruti Suzuki to lease 100 sales outlets to car dealers. Strategy will help expand reach, deploy surplus cash.

In a first of its kind, Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) will soon start leasing nearly 100 outlets for showrooms and workshops to its principal dealers, based on a lottery system.

The construction of these facilities has already started.

Maruti Suzuki's upcoming portfolio reveled through Emkay Global Financial Services Report.

Maruti Suzuki lines-up XL5, Jimny & new SUV for India

According to an Emkay Global Financial Services report, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a range of new models in India over the next 2 years.

The list of products that are currently said to be in the pipeline include the XL5 UV-styled hatchback, which is the WagonR-based 3-row hatchback, Jimny and a new SUV measuring over 4 meter in length that will compete with the Hyundai Creta.

Additionally, Maruti Suzuki also plans to launch an electric hatchback and an 800cc hatchback which could be the replacement of the Alto.

One of the models that makes the list is the S-Cross petrol, which is scheduled to be launched next month. The report also states that Maruti would bring back diesel models with BS6-compliant engines. Cars like the Ciaz, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and XL6 could get a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Didn't MS abandon the Diesel engine altogetherly?
Weren't they pursuing CNG and Petrol as their new endeavours?

For MS, their friendship with a fuel type is of convenience and profit(s).

They don't have a diesel, so they're now batting for 'cleaner' fuels like Petrol and CNG. While they milked their cash cow, the FIAT sourced 1.3 DDiS to death.

I am sure if a hypothetical situation arises when the government says that Petrol is bad, they'll put up another cost calculator on their website and ad campaigns saying how Diesel makes more sense, and how it is way cleaner and better than any other fuel type.

Let MS make this 1.5L Diesel comply to BS6 norms, and we'll see how they promote it.

Does it take a loss in the market to get good products to India? At this point, I would say with a 2 year scenario MS would be too late with Jimny. Who knows what's in store for tomorrow?!

You don't have to wait for their statement. They have already hinted on it.

The auto major, however, may look at having a bigger BS-VI diesel engine at a later stage if there are enough customers for diesel-powered big SUVs and sedans.

There is no way they will develop a diesel that close to BS6 deadline and then just give that up. It will make a grand comeback!!! I wish they could make more it torquey (~300 NM @ 1000 - 3000 RPM) 😋

Gypsy came to our market in a very different era, it sold also as a pure utility vehicle apart from bulk defence orders. The enthusiasts were a minuscule customer base, so that part may not change much for Jimny. In today’s times Jimny cannot be sold to those customers who bought Gypsy for utility purposes. Launching Jimny in the present configuration will not make economic sense unless the bulk is exported, which is what MSIL is doing I guess. Otherwise if they make Jimny into another Gypsy even the (now relatively wealthier) enthusiasts will not buy it. Or else have the entire range from luxury to utility to SWB to LWB. MSIL has a big problem with Jimny, and that is, how to position it in the Indian market.

A plethora of parts-bin mediocrity in multiple shapes and sizes!

Two years ago India was supposed to lead Suzuki's onslaught into electrical mobility, starting with a big Li-ion battery plant.

Now they keep quiet about this and have retreated with tail between their legs. They must the thanking their lucky stars for the pandemic!

Pretty sure they must be lobbying hard with the Indian government against giving sops for electric cars. 'Electric cars are for richer countries, India is a poor country and does not deserve such things!'.

With this parts bin mediocrity we are at ~25 cars per 1000 Indians. Without Maruti I wonder what would have been the scene. TeamBHP will be full of stories about horses and bullock carts.

Anyhow how many Alto800s will sell at the price of an Ignis? something tells me that its not going to be many at the moment - its expensive and looks like very poor value at that price. Right now only the well off people who has ~15L can afford it in the form of a Nexon EV. A skyrocketing sales success of Nexon EV will generate enough interest in others to follow.

ICE technology has improved to the extend that you can have an Alto800 with airbag and abs, power steering, power windows, AC and many more features at a price a lot less than the original M800.

New technology should always be an improvement from the current circumstances, we are yet to see that with EVs, perhaps an Alto800 EV at a reasonable cost will arrive some day.

Is this situation unique only to India and Maruti ?? or it's more or less similar to all the emerging economies ??
