The 1.3 DDiS is available right now in the facelifted Ciaz and the prices mentioned earlier are for this engine. They will probably launch the 1.5 around Diwali or in early 2019.

Smooth Pricing. Petrol Alpha automatic is priced same as Diesel Alpha.
One sore point is the lack of a proper Auto gear box which might turn off in a big way I guess. 4 Speed is an old story.
In any case, we can expect Ciaz to lead the segment in coming months. Surprising that MSIL which usually focuses more on Bling has missed out on Sunroof/Moon roof which gives City the edge especially in petrol. With 1.3 DDIS engine being launched, it's almost sure now that they won't bring the 1.5 Diesel in Ciaz this year. Hyundai can have a sigh of relief for now. Wonder Where does this put Yaris.

Yes, currently they will still utilize the MJD for the facelift. Perhaps, bringing up the K15 engine to the market was an easier task compared to a completely new diesel engine. The K15 will invariably have some relation to the K12 and K14 both of which are proven engines. Compared to this, the development of the diesel engine will be far more challenging, that too when you have to benchmark with the 1.3L MJD as well as the competition, which offer superb refinement(Hyundai), performance(VW) as well as reliability(Toyota). Delaying the facelift because of the Diesel engine development would not be a viable option and hence, the 1.3 MJD continues until the new 1.5 engine becomes mature enough to hit the market as well as become competent enough.

Fiat had such a nice 1.6 on offer.

Pretty good pricing Vs competition! Hope the 1.5L petrol is good enough fun. And looking at the variants, Zeta has almost all useful stuffs that Alpha has and for the extra 40K, one gets a wider tyre, better stereo and loads of chrome. Just to avoid chrome, the Zeta version appeals to me and it doesn't lose on any major feature - that's well done Maruti!

Many are complaining about same 1.3 DDIS oil burner being plonked in, however I see it as Maruti's strategy to test the 1.5 petrol motor before using it in other models like Ertiga. Secondly, Maruti follows the customer pulse very closely. They know customer focus is on petrol so they have given:
1. LED headlamps and Tail lamps
2. Machine Cut Alloys
3. Adjustable Rear Headrests
4. Cruise Control
5. Better MID
7. Ugly grill + Tacky Instrument Cluster Needles
8. Smart Hybrid (aka dual batteries + torque assist)
9. A bigger and more powerful petrol motor

at just 50k extra from previous Alpha petrol model. And it is below the 10 lac mark. IMO Maruti has hit the bulls eye and it will align with many customer looking for a C segment vehicle. The official site has gone live and can be accessed here.

If the market is aligned towards petrol, Maruti has hit the Bulls eye. Under 10L pricing for even the top end model is super wonderful.

Plus ESC and Hill hold will help the safety conscious. Disappointed it is given only with AT. Should be made standard across at a little hike in price.

Delta variant being the only AT under 10L is a bit sad. But it seems to be stocked adequately well including the all important cruise control.

Honda needs to come with CVT for its lesser variants or risk losing sales to Ciaz.
