Attended a very crowded 6 Series launch in Bangalore with fellow mod Vid6339. Everyone came literally with their mother, kids and driver hence getting clean shots of the car was a challenge.

Spoke a lot with the BMW folks

1: They expect the 6 series to outstrip the 5 in terms of demand
2: Shortage of 3.0d engines is delaying introduction
3: No 620d will be introduced to preserve 520d sales

I did not see this mentioned but the 6 series is based on the 7 series short wheelbase complete with air-suspension.

The version shown during the launch party has the M Sport body kit which costs an extra Rs 6 Lakhs.

For that you get -

Black grill and the M Sport front bumper

M Sport Rear Bumper and Black Chrome Exhausts

19 inch wheels and a side stripe

Car looks a lot better in the flesh and a big improvement on the old blocky 5 GT.

Some cool features

The exterior carpet light

Sunroof retracts inside unlike the awkward up and over mechanism of the Mercedes

Front Cooling Air Vents

Adaptive LED Headlights integrated into the kidney grill

Grill vents closed off for aerodynamics / preserving engine heat

Rear LED lights

Interiors are standard 5 series but with more space

Front instruments

Rear space is generous - leg space of me sitting behind myself - plenty of wiggle room

Maximum rear leg space with passenger seat full forward.

Side of of actual maximum space. Note seat recline angle is a mere 9 degrees but anything more and your head will foul the sloping roof.

Car should do well depending on the markets acceptance of a large hatchback. If you are driven 80% of the time - then it is the E class for you. If it is 50:50, consider the 6 series. Gets air suspension which the lesser E Class' do not get and has much superior petrol engines.

Note the BMW India folks found that the Remote Parking and 360 degree camera options are not really a must have for us driver driven folks.

Interestingly; it replaces the 5 GT, but acts like the 7 with air suspension on both axles!

Quite an attractive alternative to the E-Class.

Now the 'old' 6-series coupe style will probably be re-incarnated as the 8-series...

I doubt if its correct or not, 7 LWB used to share the platform with Phantom in past, so either they use some extended platform of 5 for the 7 series short-wheel or 6 is based on 5 as I don't think they will have a special platform for 7 series short wheelbase.

From my limited interactions with dealership guys, the initial feedback is not very positive, concerning driveability and the rear seems to be the culprit. Also, doors without the frames are not very practical and they sound differently when closed with a force. I will be surprised if people actually pick this over regular 5 series which appears aesthetically much smarter and should ride better even without air-suspension.

The previous platform is shared with the Ghost, not the Phantom. The new platform is shared with both the 5 and the 7.

Some of the earlier BMW Coupes (E90, I think) used to lower the windows by an inch automatically when unlocked and raise them again once the doors such to prevent shattering.

Like I mentioned, depends on market acceptance of a big hatch.

I forgot to mention, one of the BMW sales folks did mention that the market is not really interested in the remote park assist, 360 degree camera etc. since they are mainly driver driven/ valet parked

Re: BMW @ Auto Expo 2018

Guys need suggestions.

BMW did Auction for certain cars last week and a close known emerged as the winner for this special edition M4.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post4354157 (BMW @ Auto Expo 2018)

The car was used primarily by certain BMW officials first and then of late was with fellow member Lee. What will be a good price for the car?
