Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

Nothing surprising here. They have priced it right where the segment plays. Most of the features expected from a product in this price bracket are present including sunroof, multiple air bags ,apple/android play, dual zone CC and the whole yard of safety nomenclature.
Honda is known to charge premium for their products and they now know that with diesel and extra seats this soft roader is finally ready for the big time.

A good car but what was Honda smoking plonking a puny 120hp engine..and the price does not justify the premium at all.
Loaded with features agreed..but the heart of a sedan at best in a full size 'SUV' seems a tad far fetched. I guess Toyota Corolla Altis puny Diesel has a competition in the sense of big-car small-heart.

When I saw 140bhp in a 44 lakh car, thought, this is the worse value proposition from power per lakh standpoint.
Honda proves me wrong with 118bhp for 38-39 lakh car.

Now I wait for a day when someone offers eye opening product of sub 100bhp car for 35 lakh, to give truely a world class experience to India customers.
Enough said.

1.6 Ltr 118 ps diesel in a CRV, seriously??To an enthusiast, this has to be a Joke.

Did someone say Creta with a 128ps CRDi at 18L OTR was overpriced?

Bad move, as usual they wont be getting any big sales for this one. I was expecting it to be launched at a much much lower price tag, but at the same time I also knew it wont; based on the price tag of the earlier model. 39.8 lacs for the top end model that has 118hp. It actually is a joke

Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

This is nothing new, Honda and Toyota are seasoned in the art of marking up.. way up.

I can tell everyone this for sure.. the way these two have been pricing their cars, it makes me shiver each time I read a related article, be it the present gen City, the Yaris, the Fortuner, and now the CRV.

I imply nothing negative in the process, though.. the business is all about the bottom-line and I know enough loyal buyers of Honda and Toyota in the country who will put the money where their mouth is, no matter how many suitcases it'll take.

I'll still fondly remember a phone-call by a BMW executive from Navnit Motors who was happily willing to settle a X1 first gen for 18L ex-showroom (1 lakh off from an already massive mark-down) on an existing stock. It was 6-7 years ago and we really couldn't have afforded one but boy have times changed in such a short gap.

Honda, Toyota and Lexus should be the BIG 3, the new symbols of the ultra-rich, I do not equate value with them personally.

Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

Honda is supposed to cater to "reliable + fun + quality" category as they did with Accord, Civic, CR-V, City, etc. in the past. Those were the good days for Honda fans and nobody else was offering that reliable + fun + quality combination. Maybe Honda thinks there isn't enough market for cars like Civic but they could have at least sold few such cars. There is hardly anything exciting in a Honda showroom to visit these days. After the recent buzz about CR-V and Civic launches, I am expecting some sort of a revival. They should have given the petrol with 9-sp AT. It is very difficult to like a cvt if you are a keen driver.

Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

Disappointed at the pricing. Have driven this vehicle extensively in USA and the base price is 25k USD (16L). Thanks for charging double the amount in India, dear Honda !

Honda is digging their on grave by over pricing their cars .

Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

It did not have an oil burner earlier & now when they plonk one, it seems like a bad joke. 118 bhp & 300 NM torque, the 1.6 S-Cross which was priced less than half, had more power.
Agreed the features are good, but the heart of an SUV is always under the hood. This one disappoints. A great SUV like the Endeavour is struggling against the Fortuner, this one will be obliterated.

Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

With this pricing of CR-V by Honda, I think they are giving a hint on the price range of the Civic if and when it launch in India. The price is at least dearer by 3-4 lakhs and in this price range this won't even sell 100 copies per month.

Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

Like I had mentioned in the discussion on the earlier longrunning thread, the increase in price for this generation over the earlier one is a little more than 30%.

The old CRV had 2.4 petrol engine for the top models, current one only gets the 2.0 which was available only till the mid-spec variant last time around.
Last time around the petrol top end was available with 4WD. Now its only on 2WD. So the new CRV petrol is equivalent to the old 2.0 2WD one which was 21.3L when launched. New one however is 28.15L!

Coming to the diesel, although Honda claimed the reason for the 120hp variant is VFM in that the 160hp is around 1.5L more expensive in the Indian context, no cost savings passed on to the customer! Even though we get the cheaper 120bhp 1.6 diesel, the pricing is bang against the 3.2L 200ps Endeavours and 2.8L 177ps Fortuners! Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan might face some heat though - as the Honda is known to be far more reliable - but those two were not doing much numbers in terms of sales anyways.

Here's how the segment stands -

Jeep Compass Limited Plus 1.4 DDCT - 21,41,600
Jeep Compass Diesel
Jeep Compass Limited Plus 2.0 D - 21,07,900
Jeep Compass Limited Plus 2.0 D 4*4 - 22,85,400

Tucson Petrol 2.0 6-Speed Automatic GLS - 2,290,066

Tucson Diesel 6-Speed Automatic 4WD GLS - 2,574,000

VW Tiguan Comfortline Diesel - 27,49,074
VW Tiguan Highline Diesel - 30,87,611

Ford Endeavour Diesel 2.2l 4X2 AT Titanium - 30,27,400
Ford Endeavour Diesel 3.2l 4X4 AT Titanium - 32,81,300

Honda CRV Petrol 2WD - 28,15,000

Honda CRV 1.6 Diesel 2WD 9AT - 30,65,000
Honda CRV 1.6 Diesel 4WD 9AT - 32,75,000

Toyota Fortuner Petrol 2.7 2WD AT - 28,86,000
2.8 Toyota Fortuner Diesel 2WD AT - 31,07,000
2.8 Toyota Fortuner Diesel 4*4 AT - 32,97,000

Skoda Kodiaq Diesel -
Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI AT - 33,83,995

Sure the petrol CR-V will be better than the earlier generation, but is it worth a near 40% on-road price increase compared to the earlier generation 2.0 2WD AT? Will wait for the Team Bhp review to get the final verdict.

Sure the 1.6 120hp diesel is 'enough', but is it worth paying the same price as the 3.2L Ford, 2.8 Toyota and a premium 2.0 DSG Skoda - just for the Honda badge? Will wait for the Team Bhp review to get the final verdict, again.

Absolutely not IMHO.
I am sure that Honda must have applied their "India specific quality Standards" on the CRV as well. For that price a what honda is asking we have better options available.

Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

Really suicidal pricing for what is not a luxury car. Its a good urban SUV.
Saw many of them in Dubai and it doesn't look more expensive than the last generation car and that's a problem.
If Honda is planning a similar pricing strategy for the Civic, they should just not waste our time

Re: 5th-gen Honda CR-V launched at Rs. 28.15 lakh

The pricing makes me go
I don't see this car selling too many units- Hyundai Tucson is good value and Honda can't dominate Toyota and Ford.
Cars like the Corolla diesel (with awful power ratings) have sold, but that is mainly because of lack of other alternatives.

This segment is all about 'image.' Its more of a 'want' than a 'need.' The 1.6 maybe adequate at best. Cars in this segment are about the butch factor-the big diesel and image the driver or the saheb needs when he attends his office/meetings or turns up at a family function.
