Tata Harrier does not sound too appealing to me at least. They should have come up with something more macho to suit the SUV credential of the car. The name may not go down very well with the mass market as well.

The Harrier family of fighter jets are known for their vertical lift-off / short take offs, can the same name be used by a car maker too? If yes, then it could be a good choice for the H5X.

Why not use names like H5X itself? I mean Mercs, Audis and Beemers have used such nomenclatures for ages now. Whats in a name? Eventually if the product is good I do not think the name will stand in its way.

Toyota has a Harrier, though they won't be launching it in India in the near future.

I guess Tata is extensively testing as they'll need to ensure these cars can match the Creta (& Crysta) in real world reliability. IMO they can't price it close to the Hyundai without any unique trick. If gadgetry is that trick, IMO they'll barely manage a small impact.

My best guess is the 7-8 seater rival to Crysta will be where Tata plans to concentrate most. They're way behind schedule to compete against existing brands. Let's see.

I guess it's all about who registers the name first. I am sure Toyota is more than happy with Fortuner and Innova sales

The name harrier does not go in sync with recent naming efforts of Tata such as Zest, Bolt, Hexa, Tiago, Tigor, Nexon. All these are short and crisp with 4/5 letters. Harrier doesn't exactly fit well in the family.

Harrier just does not evoke the same emotion that a Sierra/Safari does not that its a bad one.

I disagree. I own Hexa and the Harrier sounds great to me. A rose by any other name is a rose nevertheless, Shakespeare lamented. I do remember the times when the moniker iPad was mocked as a namesake of sanitary pad.

I really hope TATA would carry forward Harrier and won't change it like it did with Zika aka Tiago. Harrier sounds upmarket, European with an sublime American touch, a macho, powerful and arrived phenomenon.

I also feel the targeted mass who would dump their dough on the Harrier will be upmarket, upper middle class, who would have owned immovable properties and definitely this is not his first car. The journey of TATA a taxi wala to the sauve gold class will start with Harrier.

ummm... Nissan manufactures a certain Nissan Safari in Japan, popular in the rest of the world as Nissan Patrol. Also, there is a Ford Sierra and a GMC Sierra and another I just recalled a Nissan Versa.

Tata's vehicle operations name their internal projects on basis of group of birds of prey. Following are few of the internal names used.
- Bolt and Zest was called ‘Falcon4’ and ‘Falcon5’
- Tiago and Tigor was called ‘Kite4’ and ‘Kite5’
- Hexa was called ‘Eagle’
- Nexon was called ‘Osprey’
- H5X siblings are called ‘Harrier’

So far my birdies are not chirping in anything on the name and are mum on the name and what will the exact day or month they will showcase this. I doubt this will be called the 'Harrier', but who knows.

On a side note this "Harrier" name was scene back in 2016 when Tata had laid the plans to bring the Creta rival, back then "Harrier" was reported to be a all new platform for Tata's upcoming SUV's, but now we all know what platform H5X is really using.
