Am I the only one who finds those protruding lights weird. Only thing it reminds me of is Sid from the ice age movie series. Looks out of place in what otherwise seems like a well proportioned vehicle.

Many of such posts are just rumours which eventually die once the vehicle launch date comes nearer. Visit any thread of speculated new car launch and go through the initial pages. Compare it with the actual launch specifications and see the variance. There are a few cases where such speculations have forced OEMs to change their launch strategy as well.

That’s a prototype. OEMs use fake lights and dummy parts to keep their actual design hidden. You can the latest sightings of the models have proper lights (hidden below camouflage and with fog lamps at the front).

re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

To my knowledge, at least 3 of the current test mules running all around the country are fitted with a 3rd row bench (2 of them are production-ready). Info comes from someone who is directly involved in these extensive testing runs and is very reliable.

Also, one of my birdies was actively involved during the Q50x's (and the x451 hatch's) hot trials testing in Rajasthan awhile back. He rode in one of the Q50x test mules which was a petrol and had 2 rows of seats, with a humongous space behind the 2nd row. A subsequent casual query revealed that the in-cabin rear space is designed to accommodate a 3rd row seat + boot space, which will be rolled out for testing in a few weeks (back then). In-cabin differences will be minimal between the 2 variants of the Q-SUVs.

Another source has claimed that the 7-seater might come first, since engine testing of the 170PS derivative is in the last phase.

My sources told me that this is the same petrol engine that is used in petrol variant of compass, but might get a different state of tune. Any info on this?

Well if you have based your assertion on anything other than "imagination" please do spell it out. Your post does not cite a source.

re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

Spotted at Leh again during it's high-altitude testing phase by an ACI reader.

Quote:
High-altitude testing is an important aspect for Tata as the H5X, which is based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s platform (codenamed L550) is likely to be an able off-road performer. It could also receive a near-identical all-independent suspension setup and similarly configured steering gear. To keep costs in check, some of the expensive aluminium parts will be replaced by more affordable steel bits.
Despite missing out on the light-weight parts, our sources have hinted that that the upcoming SUV will tip the scale under 1,650kg (kerb weight). The Tata H5X’s wheelbase is expected to remain same as the Discovery Sport’s 2,741mm.

Nope. Birdies are mum on this so far.

Looking at this pic shared earlier very clear this is 5 seater and the other with extended rear hang is 7 seater.

H5X is a 5 seater config based on Discovery platform.

7 seater is still quite far and I believe there will be a Concept before protos appear on road going by Tata's philosophy of vehicle launches.
I was expecting simultaneous launch of both 5 and 7 seater variants. We had already decided to replace our Storme with the H7X. I guess, now we will have to wait a little longer.

A separate concept and a separate launch could only mean there will be more differences in looks than only a different rear.

Re: Rumour: Tata Motors planning 2 SUVs with Land Rover inputs

Caught this yesterday around Pimpri area. Vehicle is very big. There is something written on the wheels, something 20. Is it depicting the 2.0 engine, or the wheel size?!

My guess:
EP = Early Prototype
RR T3 = Rear Right Tire 3
3355 P20 = Material specification reference number of alloy wheel 😁

You can see similar writings on front wheel as well.

I saw this in Bremmen Chowk today morning on the way to office. In flesh it really looks true to the concept at the Auto Expo.

I think your information is correct. I have been looking at the pictures quite closely and I see that one set of prototypes has the black patch and a thick padding on the D pillar and the other set does not which set me thinking. When I compared the siluhouttes from the launch video the most distinc difference between the twins visually is that the 5 seater has a less pronounced tail light overhang as well as the spoiler overhang from the body. The 7 seater on the other hand seems to have a pointed protrusion from the body where the tail light should be and the spoiler overhand is greater too. This is what the black patch D pillar padding seems to be hiding. Going by this hypothesis the black patch version which started testing earlier would be launched first and is the 7 seater. The no black patch version mules we are seeing in recent times is the 5 seater and started testing later.
