I went to the Pune event this morning. The Harrier looks better in reality than in pictures. As mentioned by many, the rear looks awesome. It is a massive car when it comes to dimensions. Loved the loads of space the car offers. I'm about 5'11 and generously built. I found a very comfortable seating position - seated higher and pushed behind, the left knee avoided rubbing with the centre console in this position and still enough space for the passenger in the rear who was 6'2".

At a higher seating the blind spot is surely an issue but you'll get used to it with time. The view of the entire bonnet made me smile. I was ok with the NVH levels given that my 12 year old Elantra is much louder than what the Harrier is. With the music on, you'll surely not hear anything inside the car. I revved the engine upto 3500 rpm and was ok with it. Liked the bungee hooks and the space beneath the flat floor in the boot - a nice thought. Sore points to me were the rough edges on the mobile phone shelf in the rear, alloys, the USB ports access, the center armrest - with my built, It is of no use to me.

I'm a little worried about the headlights on minor impacts - we might see a vibrating reflector. The tyres look small compared to the wheel arches.
Probably 17 inchers to save costs or a longer suspension travel as someone mentioned earlier. Overall, I'm happy with what I saw today. Will wait to TD it once the car reaches dealerships.

The red highlighted portion looks like air ducting to me, but with filter like material on top. Can anyone who has seen the car confirm? Those planning to visit can also confirm.

Checked out the Harrier in Chennai - Madras Boat Club, last night. Overall, a positive impression. The car is B-I-G. Interior space is good, not extravagant for a 6'2" guy. The boot space is also quite decent. The styling is nice and has presence. Played FM on HK unit, wasn't as impressed as I'd have loved - simply felt the bass wasn't there - may be the settings were flat. Played it loud to half the volume, there was absolutely no distortion. Loved the way the door closes and a fair insulation. They didn't start the car, so couldn't see the MID.

The guy in the pic is 6'2", so you can guage the dimensions. The door latch issue (Guna pointed I guess) is quite a valid design oversight. You'll face it when you try to close the door and it doesn't close in the first attempt. It's a minor irritant, you'd not expect that in a 20L premium vehicle.

• Nice finish on the wood panel
• Decent touch screen
• Ingress / Egress was easy for me
• The dealer guy I was talking to, mentioned the ride quality was good and handling, brilliant too
• TDs start on 23 Jan as he mentioned
• There was too much emphasis / pride on the LR pedigree
• Had a mixed feel when I held the steering, couldn't confirm the size was a little big, the leather felt hard.
• The park brake again was a little tricky, gets easier the more you fiddle with it, didn't sit flush when released fully.
• The sun glasses holder on the centre roof had a premium slow slide when opened.
• There wasn't any proper clicks for the buttons / AC / volume knob though they look premium.

Went to have a look at it last evening at Chennai boat club. Initial impression was good, the car was big, huge boot space and spacious rear seat for 3. The major irritant was the driver seating comfort. I'm 5'9" and thick set very happy with my rapid's seating comfort, my major concern with the harrier was that my left leg was constantly hitting on the lower dash area, had to height adjust to the lowest position to avoid the knee getting constantly hit. The front armrest is as good as non-existent for the driver, they should have provided a sliding armrest, which couldn't be done thanks to the stupid handbrake design. Come on Tata, you have to concentrate on the ergonomics as well
Another thing was the foam on the seat was a little too much on the softer side, look forward for sore unders on long drives . Build quality was OK, thought the door closure wasn't as good as what is expected at this segement - No skodaesque thud and all. No roof rails meant they had to put a mean beading to cover the roof weld joints, which was ill-fit. Interiors are OK.. would say not on par with creta, some sore points were those puffed up steering mounted control buttons, rough edges all around, lack of storage compartments, inaccessible aux and charger sockets. The sales guy who I was talking with was bragging about more than 100 bookings received already at their dealership and said deliveries will be only in march. He also said the AT box will be available only by the year end and had no idea about either the 7 seater or the AWD version.

Speculated to make an re-entry in Europe post its launch here.

media report from The Netherlands revealed that Tata Motors will launch the Harrier in Europe, post its launch in India. This included countries like the UK, Italy, France, and so on. Harrier will be the gateway of Tata’s re-entry in the European market.

Saw the car yesterday in Pune during their Discover the Harrier event.
I also noticed the same and upon asking the TML guy confirmed that this is an air intake.

This was a fingerprint magnet. Quite a few people were hands on and i was hesitant to touch because my allergies were already acting up.

The interior was above average in most respects, except for some shoddy stitching as seen here.

I had a video of the sound Quality. But was unclear if the recording from my mobile would be sufficient to clear the doubts of the general public. So have not shared that. No doubts it was very good sound system.

The Indian car market has surprising trends but for reasons. While we do know that 70% of the total Creta sales are from diesel versions and 80% buyers opt for the manual transmission, the fact that the largest selling Creta model in India is the base E+ diesel left us a bit surprised. However, a quick look at the brochure as well as pricing of smaller compact SUVs gave us the right reason for this trend.

Found this snippet from a Cartoq article. Thus looks like the barebones variant makes considerable sense and are just not about starting price advertisements and since the Creta and Harrier will be targeting a similar group of customers it could explain the XE variant.

Also if we assume the above for the Harrier launching just the diesel without auto though not ideal would still help Tata address a significant portion of the market.

Interestingly, the wooden finish has even got whitish 'fungus' kind of grains/lines which makes it look very real. Looks close to 'Walnut' finish but not quite the same. Oak finish would have looked more premium IMHO.

What I meant in my post was... Tata is trying to shrug off their image in the market by posing the Harrier as a high quality product (Land Rover pedigree, blah blah) but the quality lapses could be seen as pointed out by @Guna in this post (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post4517583). As a moto enthusiast, I am not trying to spread negativity, but making team-bhp readers aware and asking Tata to take notice of those minor niggles. I want Tata and Harrier to succeed as much as others. In fact I am a serious contender for the Harrier. With competition catching up, and a slew of new launches coming up, will make things interesting or difficult depending on which side one is.

I didn't say Creta is a "best in quality"... but that their quality is decent, panel gaps are uniform, they have good after sales n service.

Lastly, this forum is designed to publish ones own views and not a test of manhood

When I saw this in person, the enclosure for lights which has fog lights inside looked a bit bigger. It gives a yawning gap that doesnt gel well. Maybe they should have reduced the black area around the setup.
Other than this the rear bulge is also something that my wife didnt like. Other things are fine if the price is right But no buying since our next car has to be a automatic for everyone at home to drive.

True, all of us want the Harrier to succeed and Tata to become a global brand one day (which, it has the potential to). I feel the quality/fit-and-finish levels I have seen in the Nexon and Hexa are a notch higher and it is still possible that the final product will look much better put together.

I'm not sure if this review was posted here before. Couple of extracts from it -
