From what has been leaked, and the timing of the leak, leads me to think that this is how the 3 vehicles will be positioned:

Harrier > Hexa > H7X

Wow! If this is true, then we have a serious competition for Duster and the likes.

I’m not sure if the product placing will impact the Nexon sales though. Cross shopping within the showroom is a higher possibility when you have such offering.

The 7 seater option might actually bite into BR-V territory as well.

Did you mean Harrier will be more expensive than the Hexa, which in turn will be more expensive than the H7X?

This is what I would expect from a pricing standpoint but from a positioning standpoint I see this as:-

Nexon-->Harrier-->H7X - Subcompact-->Compact 5 seater-->Compact 7 seater SUV
Hexa - Mid size MUV

The Harrier would cater to people who want a 5 seater butch looking, SUV styled, feature rich vehicle which is mostly are Creta, Duster and Compass customers. The differentiator will be features and the JLR label combined with knockout pricing. In this scenario the auto is a must version and the 4WD will be another differentiator once the VFM, desirability perception is formed. I see no other reason not to have the 4WD at launch

The Hexa caters to the spacious MUV section of people to whom space and 7 seat comfort matters the most. Yes it might not be a true 7 seater but is the most comfortable last row in India. This mostly is geared towards the Innova crowd.

The H7X would cater to the 7 seat flagship SUV customer where all of the competition has a auto and 4WD option from the word go. This segment has cramped last row as a standard and big SUV looks and off roading credentials matter. Would cater to XUV/Alturas/Fortuner customers with features, pricing and the pedigree established by the Harrier as differentiators.

Autocar has just shared the dimensions of the Harrier. Apparently it weighs in at 1680 Kgs. Did we have this information before?

Anyways that gives a bhp/ton of 83.3
Where does that stand vis a vis Creta?

Edit: Creta has a power to weight ratio of 95 and torque to weight ratio of 195. Harrier has torque/ weight ratio of 208.

So while Creta has higher bhp/ton, harrier has better torque/weight ratio. Interesting!!

As per the below Autocar report, it is interesting to see that the Harrier is bigger than even the XUV500!! Whats good is the wheelbase is also a healthy 41mm more than the XUV. While it will be extremely spacious for a 5 seater, it also allows Tata to provide an option of a 5+2 combination on the Harrier, with minimal changes.



"The Mahindra, despite having seating for seven, is also slightly smaller – its wheelbase is 41mm less, its length is 13mm less and its width is 4mm less, though it stands 71mm taller than the Tata. This bodes well for the Harrier’s interior space, with the numbers showing that it could be class-leading ."

Yep! My kid is happy to sit in the last row, provided Tata provides it. I don't understand why they can't simply provide the option of the third row in the Harrier. With the third row, 60:40 or 50:50 split, if you need more luggage space, just fold half of it and put your suitcase there. At least, for a family of 5, two adults, one kid + two parents OR in laws, you can then go on holidays. With 5 seats, you don't have this option at all.

The Autocar report also says:
"However, the Mahindra and the Jeep come with an all-wheel-drive system that does add to their respective kerb weights, a feature that the Harrier will not get in the near term."

No 4x4 "in the near term"

Is this the general understanding? I thought it was going to be a 4wd SUV. [In fact, I don't think anything without 4wd should be called an "SUV"!!]

I believe outside of this forum, there really isn't much demand for 4wd vehicles. When I test drove the XUV500 few months back, the sales guy said, if you want a AWD variant, we will have to order it and get it delivered from the plant as it doesn't have demand and is not stocked at all - there will be a long wait period.
