re: The Kia Seltos SUV (SP Concept). EDIT : Launched at Rs. 9.69 lakhs

Kia Seltos to get a Diesel GT Line variant

I was at Frontier Kia today and they confirmed that they got a notification from Kia earlier today that said that over and above the existing variants for the diesel, there will be a GT Line variant - GTX+ which will bring all the GT Line specific features like the HUD display to the diesel as well.

This is great news as I'd been following up with them regarding the same as I really liked the HUD display in the test drive and was hoping it'll be on the diesel as well.

Also, as far as the seat upholstery goes, they said they're still not sure which variants will have all black and which ones will have black and beige combo. The SA was of the opinion that maybe the dual tone colour will have all black. He also couldn't confirm whether the diesel GTX + will have all black interiors or stick to the tech line version - Beige + Black.

If I worked in Kia, I would propably make the production simpler by either providing an interior color option or have dual tone coloring for HT line and black interior for GT line.

You are spot on with your observation. Underpasses tend to be dangerous as they fill up in seconds and many had to bail out from the window space and swim to safety. Not sure of Seltos but Tata Nexon has the highest ground clearance of 210 MM. Any idea what its water wading height is?

So this must be the lower variant right? Looks pleasing to the eye compared with other flashy top-end variants IMO. This does have Creta vibes to it with the toned down design elements.

Got this variant list from the dealer. It is not yet updated with diesel GTX+ variant. Even the the list is intricate. Buyers and SA may have tough time picking up the most appropriate!

What color is Telluride Grey? Why is not the white and black interior in this list? Is white and black called Telluride Grey? I guess i am going color blind for a moment.
Fun Fact, Telluride is a car by Kia.

Seltos - adding to speculative cacophony!

Since its the season for speculative cacophony, in the absence of any verifiable 'official' information from Kia, any opinions from our esteemed members on the following will be appreciated:
  • -The (mid) HTK versions are not listed with recline-adjust rear seats. However, the pics posted here of the boot reveal clearly the recline-adjust elongated metal guides at both sides for the rear seats. Any opinions on whether the rear seats can be selected to recline from 26 deg to 32 deg or will the rear seat occupants be forced to sit upright? The pics show the rear seats at the upright position.
  • -The HTK versions again have single projector headlights on either side. Projectors being what they are best at - focussed and more narrow throw of light on the road ahead, what about cornering lights in the cluster? I could not spot any in the photos. Has any member checked this out on the vehicle? Its cousin, the Creta has fixed cornering lights.
  • - Use of a single projector lamp at either side for high and low beams in the HTK version - whereas projectors are capable of throwing a strong beam covering both the low and high, its finally down to a single halogen bulb and may not be able to beat a twin lamp set up (one for high and other for low beams), which is more of less the norm in other vehicles in the price bracket. Unless of course, the bulb specs here make up for that. Any opinions on this? Or is it too early to ask the Q?
  • -A couple of Aussie reviews for their Seltos state that the dual-tone colour combi is not available in the sunroof option combination. Which effectively rules it out for the GTX+ & HTX+ for us (?) An Indian variant-features table (speculative / 'non-official') posted earlier also shows the dual-tone colours marked in Asterix only for the GTK, GTX and HTX. So what's the reason? A typo, any technical reason or just price controlling?
  • -Android Auto has been confirmed as available - as mentioned very clearly in all the sources. However, that means only the wired version - unless the vehicle has a wireless capability, in which case wifi could be used to connect the smartphone to the display. No info on that, as far I know. Anybody has any thing to say on that?

- Apologies - disregard the PDF, as it appears to be corrupted on up-loading, despite my best efforts and the original being okay!

My SA at Mumbai did mention that dual tone colour option is not available with sunroof. So you can only have one of those things.

re: The Kia Seltos SUV (SP Concept). EDIT : Launched at Rs. 9.69 lakhs

My observation from this video, I'll write about the differences from GTX+ varient.

1. The interiors were black and there was no soft touch leather pads on the door and on the dashboard.

2. No sunroof was to be found and the interior lighting are normal bulbs unlike the LED lighting on the GTX+ trim.

3. The wheels are 16inch unlike 17inch on GTX+. The headlight assembly is halogen and the rear tail lamp has no heartbeat signature LED lamp. The day time running lights don't extend to the middle unlike GT trim. The ice cube fog lamp is replaced by a mono halogen fog lamp.

4. The chrome bits on the grill and rear tail lamp section is finished in silver. No chrome used on the exterior. The side mirrors and front grill does not house the camera's, no 360 degree view and the 7inch screen MID display is not offered.

5. The grab handles are not retractable and are fixed. (Look's very cheap)

6. The flat bottom steering wheel is missing and has a round wheel. HUD is missing too. (GT exclusive)

7. The infotainment screen is smaller and there are physical buttons. No auto climate, it's simply manual. The gear knob is just rubber, it is not finished in any glossy material. No wireless charging pad.

8. The glossy trim on the door and steering wheel is missing and the bose speaker is absent as obvious.

9. The armrest is basically plastic and not wrapped in leather. It does not house the UVO air purifier and the fast charger socket is missing.

10. The seats are finished in fabric. The driver side seat is manually adjustable. The rear seats have 2 fixed head rests and there are no seat pockets available.

11. Just like the front doors, the rear too misses out on the gloss finish and leather wrap on the arm rest. Rear armrest is missing.

12. Speculation: I believe the reclining seats are not added here.

13. Car is not installed with UVO connect, if you don't want to get tracked down by your family, this is the varient to go for!

14. Rear parking camera is given, front parking camera is not offered. Rear parking sensors are a doubt. (Not visible)

15. No 6 airbags. 2 airbags as standard.

My views: Feels very different to the top end varient, feels like two different cars at some point.

Not sure if this has been covered but has anyone taken a test drive after sunset and when it was raining? I am a bit sceptical about the efficiency of the bright white LEDs in rain and fog (up North). Especially because the fog lamps too appear to be of the same brightness and colour temperature.

The Kia Seltos SUV (SP Concept)

Another demand - Why can't we have a top end variant of IVT? If your driving is mostly in City traffic, then you'll be struggling with the turbo lag in 1.4 gdi engine. Assuming that in most of our City driving, the rpm will be hovering in between 1000 to 2000, Turbo petrols cannot be enjoyable.

Naturally aspirated engine, even though low in power output, will be better drivable in city conditions. Coupled with Automatic transmission, it'll be a pleasure to drive, without minding about the rev counter.

So, HTK+ comes with Drum brakes at rear. And HTX onwards, it's all round disk brakes.

Politicians are winning with this formula. Why not use the same in Car manufacturing. But, Customers or Consumers can rejoice and choose.

Customers who are skeptical about a new product can always delay their purchase for about 6 months. By that time, we'll get a slice of real world reports on the reliability issues.
