re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2017. EDIT: It's the Jeep Compass

I chose the Hyundai Verna simply because I own the previous generation Verna and like everything about it except the Suspension which could have been little better.

With Hyundai addressing this issue in the new gen car and making it slightly better in other aspects such as looks and features. It's a no brainer for me since it serves its intended purpose very well.

For me personally it has to be the new 5 Series specially the MSport 530D. It has taken the quality and features to the next level and that 6 cylinder is a dream to drive. However if I were to go by just the flutter it has caused and that butch SUV looks, it will be the Jeep and that's what I have voted for!

Voted for Jeep Compass.

It has got the looks, the ride quality and power. Is it me only, it looks much better in flesh and that too in white color

Yes the product is pricey.

Downer for compass is the rear seat width, if only it could accommodate 3 well built persons.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2017. EDIT: It's the Jeep Compass

Voted for Tata Hexa and rightly so, I own one.
  • I am a FIAT fan boy - they make great cars and I like Jeep Compass equally.
  • But for me, Jeep Compass is a slightly faster car with more ground clearance and a comparatively high riding position and nothing else compared to my Punto 90HP (I still own it). For me, it can never be a family car. It is more of a fun to drive car and definitely on the wishlist for my stable and I am personally happy for FCA to have them in this position.
  • Tata Hexa is a unique offering in India - it is a great highway car that can take you 1000+ kilometers without making you tired. Yes, it munches KMs crazily.
  • Tata Hexa is a great utility car, is of segment best ride quality and fun to drive as well. Its high driving position coupled with the smooth Punch Powerglide auto transmission is fullfilment for every SUV lover. The "Race Car" mode is icing on the cake.
  • Tata Hexa has high quality interiors and amazing refinement for a Tata car and it trumps many others in competition by miles.

Hence my vote is for Tata Hexa from our own Swadeshi brand Tata.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2017. EDIT: It's the Jeep Compass

I had three major contenders for the 2017 Car of the Year - Maruti Dzire, Tata Hexa and Jeep Compass.

The new Dzire has brought a breath of fresh air to the compact sedan segment - a marketplace that was clearly under pressure from the growing interest in compact SUVs and crossovers. I own the previous-gen Dzire and still believe that it is a nicely packaged vehicle. However, the new model has brought some serious improvements over the predecessor - better design, more features and standard safety equipment. In my opinion, the new Dzire is all the car one would need at this price point.

Then there is the Tata Hexa, a bold attempt by an automaker that is in the middle of a brand transformational strategy. The Hexa is a wicked-looking vehicle. I find it more appealing to look at than both its immediate rivals - the Innova Crysta and the Mahindra XUV5OO. It's aptly loaded with features, feels well built and comes with all necessary safety tech. Just the fact that over 1,000 customers are opting to buy a 15 lakh+ Tata vehicle every month shows that the Hexa has posed a significant challenge to its rather well-known competitors.

But my vote finally goes to the Jeep Compass. What a comeback by the American SUV maker after the price blunder of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee! Those handsome looks, superb build quality, a versatile 2.0-litre diesel engine and a nicely tuned suspension setup makes the Compass a fun vehicle to own. And of course, the fact that it is a 'JEEP' does contribute to its attractiveness. In addition to all this, the price point at which the Jeep Compass is being offered makes it my best new car launch of 2017!

It was a tie between the Compass and vRS for me. Couldn't find vRS hence voted for the Compass.

Verna is the third in my list followed by the Hexa.

I voted for Tata Nexon. In my opinion, Tata has launched a fantastic urban compact SUV which should deserve this title.

Though, late to the party, Tata should focus on setting their marketing strategy right to make sure Nexon moves out off the showroom floors with customer craze in compact SUV segment.

Voted for Tata Nexon. I chose it based on what can be the best car I will be able to afford among these if i were to buy now now. Jeep compass is a great vehicle but that it appears a size smaller made me vote for Nexon. Had jeep compass been a seven seater then I would have been daydreaming about it a lot more than now!

Voted for Tata Nexon, just to promote Indian brand. I think it is nicely built. Also I believe, this would be the last poll where all cars running on IC engines. Next year, we need to create one more catagory i.e. “EV car of the year” as Tata Tiago EV is already here and Tesla will be just around the corner.

Jeep compass without a doubt. People who never would have given a second glance to a Fiat product have been forced to give it a serious consideration, such has been its impact in India. Surely it has to be special to make people do this.

I don't own any of the cars mentioned in the list; but have voted for Jeep Compass. The reasons for me are: with this model, Jeep has got a rebirth in India, rates high on VFM scale, wears a masculine and an original 'SUV' looks.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2017. EDIT: It's the Jeep Compass

Voted for the Hexa as the Car of the Year 2017 which I happened to drive a couple of times recently. For me it was undoubtedly one of the better vehicles that I had driven in a long time.

Good to see that the Jeep Compass is the Hot Favorite amongst the Team BHP members ! Is it the Value for Money proposition which comes with the Jeep Brand that has made it the choice for many ?

On the contrary, good to see the TATA family of cars being voted for by over 550 BHPians so far. Will TATA be able to make a similar impact with the mass consumers ? It will be interesting to see

Wow what a line up.
Head vs Heart
Tata Hexa vs Jeep Compass

Both has same negatives, No 4x4 Auto Diesel

Voted for Jeep Compass just because it looks HOT and is faster too.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2017. EDIT: It's the Jeep Compass

My choices were between the following -

Maruti Dzire - With the previous model ruling the charts, Maruti could've gotten away with a half baked attempt. But they didn't, and the new Dzire is a really impressive all rounder. And for the first time, with the Z+ trims being the priciest in the segment, they aren't just playing the value card anymore.

Tata Hexa - In isolation, the Hexa's sales aren't impressive at all. But get this, there's close to 1k people spending 15+ lakhs on a Tata, each month. Who would've thought.

Hyundai Verna - With the Ciaz and City dominating the segment, Hyundai needed to pull out all stops. And that's exactly what they did. It's easily the best car in the segment IMO and shows the shortcomings that the City and Ciaz have been getting away with.

Jeep Compass - 2k copies of a 20 lakh rupee Fiat. Sounds crazy, doesn't it? The Compass is a really well rounded product that offers a heavy dose of desirability as well, with the powerful engines and great design. Add to that the aspirational 'Jeep' brand and you have a blockbuster. Just hope they don't do a Renault and get complacent from here.

Other notable cars are the Honda WR-V and the Tata Nexon, but the WR-V isn't revolutionary in any way, and the Nexon doesn't come across as a completely sorted car, especially in the light of the New Ecosport.

Out of the above cars, the Jeep Compass stands out as the most ground breaking car of this year and hence, has my vote.
