Isuzu D-Max Spark spotted in India

The Isuzu D-Max Spark has been spotted in India. The single-cab variant of the pickup truck has already been launched in Thailand, but details about the Indian launch are not yet known.

The D-Max Spark will be aimed only at the commercial segment. It gets a toned-down exterior with a black front bumper, ORVMs and door handles as well as halogen headlamps and steel wheels. The side indicators are mounted on the doors instead of the fenders.

The spy images indicate that the D-Max Spark will be offered with basic interiors with black plastics and seats with integrated headrests wrapped in black upholstery. The centre console houses a manual air-conditioning unit and has a provision for a 2-DIN audio system.

The D-Max Spark is rumoured to get a 1.9-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 148 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. This unit is smaller than the 2.5-litre engine offered on the regular D-Max that makes 134 BHP @ 3,600 rpm and 320 Nm of peak torque @ 1,800-2,800 rpm. The 5-speed transmission however is likely to be carried over. Isuzu is yet confirm the D-Max Spark for India.

I wonder how much fun this truck could be in its current state! Skinny tyres, good power and little weight on the rear wheels should make it the perfect car for donuts!

Wot say, mods? A quick drift test of this one?

Huh?
The commercial variant with the smaller engine gets more power and torque?

Typo or Isuzu gone bonkers?

Newer generation RZ4E motor which replaces 4JK1 present in current DMax & VCross as applicable in various markets.

Re: Isuzu D-Max Spark spotted in India

Good to see Isuzu bringing new variants of the D-Max to India. If they want to make any serious gains in the country, they will have to adapt to tackle various segments dominated by the Mahindra Bolero-based pick-up trucks.

I hope Isuzu has indeed brought the new engine here. It will make the D-Max even more potent than it already is. The V-Cross is one of my favourite vehicles on sale at the moment. I hope to see this engine in in as well.

It is important that Isuzu treats the growing Indian market at least as well as the southeast Asian markets. After all, they do charge a premium for their products.

The original article does not have any credible source that suggests it will really get a 1.9 Ddi engine, I guess they wont launch the new engine anytime before the next emission norms kick in place.

Re: Isuzu D-Max Spark spotted in India

Strangely, our Transport Department have classified pick-up vehicles as Private use or Commercial. No private carrier. The way it looks if this model is launched in India, it will still be a 'Commercial Yellow Board regn only' vehicle.

There seems no segment, at least in South India, for individual users to own a single-cab white-board goods carrier vehicle for private use (mainly for farm owners etc) unless its the high-end V-Cross or the Mahindra Getaway & others which are not only costlier but also the twin cab eats into the cargo space. One of the reasons mentioned is that most pick-up vehicles can not be approved for Private use as they do not have ABS, Airbags and other advanced safety features. Wow, so the dept is not really bothered about the safety of a yellow-board vehicle driver!......and not even mentioning the general attitude of the RTO/Traffic inspectors to yellow-board drivers.

The KA Transport Commissioner's office told me in the past they did give rare approvals for white board on case-to-case 'merit basis' but now thats not easy.
