Re: BVR Subbu's new book! Santro: The car that built a company

I stopped reading after quarter of the book and jumped to this;

Michael Schumacher https://www.amazon.in/dp/0755316509/..._RiPDAb7QEV9KX

Like many said, the Maruti story was much more involving.

1. Interesting stuff about Hyundai, Santro and even TATA Motors/TELCO.
2. BVR Subbu hates Maruti absolutely.

The book even has sympathy for HM and PAL; but the utmost angst is for Maruti.

RC B's book on Maruti was better balanced and made a well read.

Both RC B and BVR Subbu talk in high regard about TELCO/Sumath Moolgaoakar. Are there any books on TELCO or the making of the TATA Sumo?

Thanks coolrain. I couldn't find the book on Amazon, Kindle or Apple iBooks. Will try for printed options unless someone can guide me to an online version.

Maruti nearly acquired Hyundai in late 90s, says former HMI president in his book.

Came across this interesting Times of India article When Maruti nearly bought Hyundai India.

Quote:
In his new book ‘Santro: The Car That Built A Company’, former HMI president B V R Subbu gives details of how Hyundai India almost became a wholly owned subsidiary of Maruti.
Quote:
The backdrop of this near takeover was the late-90s when HMI’s parent Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) was tackling the Asian currency crisis. At that point, HMC had actually started looking at the possibility of a significant dilution of its equity holding in the Indian entity. That’s when, in mid-1999, Maruti came into the picture. “A global investment bank rumoured to be Bank of America” approached both GM and Maruti Udyog (MUL — it was still a Suzuki-government of India JV then).
Quote:
As it turns out, HMI rode out the crisis as the sales of its flagship Santro model picked up speed, particularly with the launch of a Euro 2 variant even before the Euro 1 mandate. In August 1999, HMI made a cash profit and has since never looked back.

I am currently reading this book "Santro: The Car That Built A Company". I am yet to reach the part where B V R Subbu gives details of how Hyundai India almost became a wholly owned subsidiary of Maruti.

By the way, We have a separate thread on BVR Subbu's book "Santro: The Car That Built A Company". Have a look.

Google "Fake Amazon Reviews" and you'll see how the e-commerce giant struggles with inauthentic reviews on its website.

Check this out - The Santro book has a 4.5 star rating, but not a single BHPian has liked it so far.
